How Virtual Reality is Filling the Chasm Between Reality and Gaming

by Richa Hasija Consultant

The digital-born youth of today are not only a growing market force for virtual reality, but they are also the technology's future. With new ways to use immersive technology, younger generations will be early adopters and use virtual reality to shape their future.

Potential of the technology

Virtual Reality proponents can point out that it has applications beyond sports, as it isn't just for fun. Beyond being funded by large sums of money, both tech and non-tech companies are adopting virtual reality as a platform and a medium in various fields. There is potential for effective implementations of this new technology to bring unique value and serve as a bridge for our younger generation's interaction experiences.

By involving youth in a compelling virtual reality learning environment, they will be able to develop new digital, purposeful skills. The Sustainable Development Goals aim to make the planet a more sustainable and inclusive place for all by encouraging our youth to take the collective action needed to achieve them.

Virtual reality (VR) is becoming more prevalent in our daily lives. It is a computer-generated image or experience that allows the user to interact with the virtual world realistically. Virtual reality is revolutionising our recreational habits by headset games and the way we work and communicate in our everyday lives. Although the degree to which virtual reality will become embedded in our lives is still debatable – with many doubting that it will have the same effect as smartphones and smartwatches – the technology will only get better and better in the coming years.

Virtual Reality in Gaming

Earlier, gaming was far from reality because people used it for an escape from reality. It was a much-needed space for imagination, a place to hide from real-life experiences and live in a different reality. However, in recent times we have noticed a shift in paradigm as we see more and more technological advancements, leading to the development of Virtual Reality, which gaming companies used to create a new form of entertainment: Virtual Reality Gaming.

Bridging the gap between reality and gaming- reality and gaming had always been two opposite dimensions where gaming was a way to stay apart from reality. However, nowadays, Virtual Reality has created a new form where gaming and reality have intermingled and gives us a real-life experience of the pseudo-reality we are in while gaming. Films like Ready Player 1 show us an elaborate image of how virtual reality can close the distance between gaming and reality.
