It is always best to take your time in writing an essay, however sometimes you do not have time and you need to write an essay quickly. Just because you are in a hurry doesn’t mean that you do not write a quality essay. Here are a few tips that will help you write a great essay quickly:

Choose a topic that you are aware about

If you are short of time it is best to choose a topic that you already have a lot of knowledge and research about because that will save you the time of researching from scratch. Choosing a topic is the trickiest bit of essay writing because if you have not been assigned a topic then it is essential that you choose a good and informative topic that you will be able to write on.

Do some brainstorming

Even if you are short of time, it is essential that you do some brainstorming because it helps you gather your thoughts and put things down in an organized and well-structured way. What you can do to save time is to simply make a diagram rather than making an outline. In a diagram, you just need to jot down all your main ideas and the supporting ideas and examples by first writing the topic in the center of the page and then drawing lines leading to the main ideas followed by drawing more lines that lead to the supporting ideas and examples. Your diagram will form the foundation or basis of your entire essay. Once you have done some brainstorming it is time to get started with writing the essay.

Start writing the body first

When you sit down to write your essay, it is always best to start writing the body first because this ensures that you spend the most time on that part of your essay which is most important. Writing the body first also helps you save time as you get the most difficult part of writing your essay out of the way. The body should consist of at least 3 to 5 paragraphs explaining the main ideas. Use examples, quotes and anecdotes to retain the interest of the reader. The body needs to be the most informative section of your essay. Do not write about commonplace things that everyone knows about but include new research and interesting facts and figures. If you want to write the body quickly then you can simply use

Write the introduction

The introduction needs to be interesting and attention grabbing. You can use interesting facts or statistics, a quote or a dialogue to start off your essay. In order to write the essay quickly you can use material that you have already researched on and paraphrase it so as to avoid plagiarism.

Write the conclusion

The conclusion needs to be a summary of all the points that have been written in the essay. It needs to show how your topic has been validated. It should be a paragraph of about 6-8 lines.

Use Citations and References

Whenever you use another author’s work always give a citation that shows that you are not the original writer of the idea. Make sure to follow the referencing style specified by your institute or instructor. It is very easy to generate references using a reference generator or a citation machine.

Get someone to proofread your work

Again, you may be in a hurry but just like you cannot skip brainstorming it is not advisable that you skip the step of having someone proofread your work. It is essential that someone reads your work and checks for spelling and grammar errors as well as the checks if the structure of your paragraphs is good. A proofreader will also check to see if the flow of your essay is good. The ideas should link up to validate the topic. Once your work has been proofread you need to write the final draft of your essay. When writing the final draft of your essay take care to include all the corrections that were pointed out by your proofreader and also make sure that all your ideas are interconnected and validate the topic.

Once you have prepared the final draft you are ready to submit your essay!
