If one has to define Long Island then it will be described as a dream place with no road network. If you want to just run away from the humdrum of city life and explore the simple pleasures of nature then this island for you. Popularly known as Blue Planet; it is 47 miles away from Port Blair and cannot be reached via road. Many argue that Andaman itself is a beautiful island surrounded by water and forests everywhere; so why to travel those extra miles to reach Long Island?

Major attractions at Long Island:

Ø    Lalaji Bay Beach: Experience cruise at the silvery beach. It is a white sand beach where you can enjoy beach walks, sunsets, and cruise via mangrove creek.

Ø   Merk Bay Beach: It is perfect for snorkeling, sunbathing, swimming with dolphins and bird watching. If you are looking for some adventure then visit this beach.

Ø    Guitar Island: An island in the guitar shape can be reached on a dongri and has a mesmerizing view. If you want to spend some time alone with your partner then this beach is perfect to relax and sunbathe.

Ø    Tidal Swamp Forests: Apart from relaxing on the beaches and exploring the caves; check out the lush green tidal swamp and evergreen forests. It has its own unique ecosystem and is a treat to the seekers.

Now if you want to visit the Long Island then the question in your mind will be how to visit the long island?  Undoubtedly, long island is far away from Port Blair precisely 82kms and 35kms from Havelock Island. So it is suggested to start the journey early morning to avoid delay as the journey itself takes 4-5 hours. One can reach the island via Havelock Islands or Port Blair accordingly:

How to reach the long island from Havelock Island?

The first option is to take government ferry to the island. This is the same ferry that operates from Port Blair and visits Havelock Island and Neil Island on every alternate day. If you are staying at Havelock Island then take the government ferry early morning and it will take a halt at Neil Island and Rangat before reaching Long Island. As it is a direct ferry to the island you need to switch vehicles to reach there. There is no advance booking on the ferry; hence it is advisable to reach the port on time and get tickets. It is also a budgeted option for those who are concerned about crossing the budget.

Secondly, hire a private charter to the island. This is expensive but a comfortable and luxurious way to reach the island. If you are traveling in a group of 10-12 people then taking a private charter will be feasible as the charges will be equally distributed and it will fun to travel on your private boat. It gives you the freedom to take a halt wherever you want like if you want visit Neil Island for a day you can stop or if you want to stay at Rangat you can stop. So if budget is not a constraint then taking a private charter is best.

To conclude, if you are not visiting the island for the first time and have planned a ten day trip to Andaman then one must visit the long island. The Blue Island will not only make you feel like you are in another world but will also take away negativity and fill you with deeper peace.
