People who are serious about birding won’t hesitate to spend money on a good spotting scope.

Why Should You Use a Spotting Scope for Birding?

Birding is a very popular hobby. In the US alone, there are more than 45 million birdwatchers. Birding is very relaxing and educational. When you are birding you want to observe a bird as closely as you can without scaring it away. Spotting scopes have incredible magnification which will allow you to observe a bird from afar. Most spotting scopes are simple and lightweight so that you can carry them easily. A good spotting scope will be durable and it will last you a long time.

Now that you know the importance of a spotting scope next you should know how to use one. Depending on if you are using it indoors or outdoors there are different ways to use a spotting scope.

How to Use a Spotting Scope for Birding?

  • There are many spotting scopes in the market. Not all of them are good. Before you buy a spotting scope make sure to do your research.

  • To use a spotting scope you are going to need a tripod. If you already have a tripod at home you can use that. If you don’t have one you have to buy a spotting scope tripod.

  • If you are birding from your home, backyard, or someplace similar then place the tripod at a suitable place. Hang a bird feeder or throw some seeds and adjust your spotting scope. Now you can birdwatch comfortably.

  • If you are birding outdoors it can get a little tricky because you have to carry your spotting scope and tripod. But it can be done. Once you have chosen a place where you will birdwatch place the tripod on level ground.

  • Attach the spotting scope to the tripod. Start from the lowest magnification. Check for helpful landmarks near the birds so that you can focus easily.

  • When the quarry is in focus, tighten the tripod head and start birdwatching.

Things to Remember while Birding:

  1. A spotting scope’s magnification is very high. If a spotting scope moves even a little you will lose your focus. That is why it is important to use a tripod with spotting scopes.

  2. A spotting scope should be light and durable. Before buying a spotting scope thoroughly do your research.

  3. If you are a serious birdwatcher and you use your spotting scope a lot make sure to clean your spotting scope before putting it away. If you take good care of your spotting scope it will last you a long time.

Final Thoughts:

A spotting scope can elevate your birding experience. You only have to choose a spotting scope that is suitable for you. Hopefully, this article helped you.
