How to take your notes in live JEE classes?

by Niraj J. Creative Content Writer

The whole point of taking notes is to refresh your memory and remind yourself of a learning experience. You can benefit from taking excellent notes and having strong writing abilities if you take live online classes.

While we can only write at a rate of roughly 27 words per minute, the typical speech rate is 150 words per minute. Taking effective notes is essential for your online IIT JEE preparations.

It needs concentration, listening, analytical skills, and the capacity to synthesise in addition to the ability to write swiftly and succinctly. This aids in retaining and later editing the information you have just retrieved. The most crucial piece of advice is to follow your own preferences as you are writing for yourself.

The need for effective note-taking techniques

There are many reasons to take notes, so it's crucial to consider these reasons before choosing a particular note-taking technique that works best for you. Different requirements call for various techniques to take notes effectively, and the significance of each of these requirements to each of us varies greatly.

We generally take notes to:

  •        Capture concepts, ideas, or data
  •        Retain information from lectures during JEE live classes
  •        Visualise complex concepts

Here are several tried-and-true note-taking techniques to aid you with organisation, categorization, visualisation, and revision now that you're prepared to take notes. Everybody learns a little bit differently, and some subjects are more suited to particular learning philosophies than others.

·        The Outline

For those who value simplicity, this is for you. One of the simplest methods for taking notes, it usually comes effortlessly to most individuals.

Start by selecting the four or five main points that will be covered during the online class when taking your notes. As the lecturer tackles each of these issues, write some more in-depth sub-points regarding it.

Make sure you allow enough space on each page if you're writing out your outline by hand so that all of your sub-points have their own space. Alternatively, you might take them to a computer and merely rearrange them in your text document as you go.

This method of taking notes is excellent and straightforward.

·          The Cornell Method

You can write the summary either after the class or later when you're reading through your notes. Be sure to summarise all that was taught in the class or you can also refer to the recorded lectures.  This is a great technique to improve your retention capabilities when preparing for the IIT JEE exams.

·           The Mind Map

A mind map is a fantastic tool for taking notes on particular subject areas. This approach is ideal for courses in the classroom like chemistry and physics that have overlapping themes or difficult, abstract concepts. Use the mind map to explore a single concept in further detail or to gain a feel on how various topics are related. This can also be used later for quick on-the-go revision for JEE exams.

In a later review, delve into further detail and tack on more compact sub-concepts to each branch. Dates, formulas, supporting information, and related ideas all make excellent branches. It might appear something like this in the end:

·           Flow Notes

For students who want to get the most out of their in-class active learning and spend the least amount of time reviewing the material later, this note-taking technique is excellent.

Write down ideas, draw arrows, and create simple diagrams and graphs. Go bonkers. Participate in the content. Make sure to put in efforts to learn and understand when writing or creating those notes.

There are no restrictions on this one. It's excellent for those who do not like playing by the rules.

·           Journaling – Bullet style

This is most commonly used among students in and outside of the classroom.

If you have a keen sense of aesthetics, enjoy sketching, or are a particularly visual learner, this strategy might be perfect for you.

By writing in your bullet journal, you may turn a blank page into a gorgeous representation of your thought process. Think about combining it with components from different note-taking strategies.

A class schedule or a doodle can be sketched in within the pages. You should also set aside some space for mind maps and notes.

This strategy does have shortcomings. Quick note-taking can be difficult. Use an outline or another strategy to take notes during class. And organise them later in your journal while revising or reviewing it.

Make sure your notes are easy to review and understand so that you can refer to just before your exams. It’s hard to take notes while listening to someone speak – after a lecture, always check that what you’ve written makes sense. This can greatly boost your chances of securing a high score in IIT JEE.
