How to take care of different types of wood outdoor lounge furniture?

by Andrew swell Contemporary outdoor Furniture

Most wooden outdoor lounge furniture is made of hardwood that can be cleaned and cared for in a similar way. But still, every kind of wood has its own special needs, therefore we have come with useful tips to help you keep your different types of the wooden outdoor lounge in Brisbane clean and well maintained.

1.    Teak lounge- Over time, teak furniture develops a pleasing silvery grey patina rather than any sign of dryness or physical defects. Its natural oils help keep this hardwood durable in every kind of weather situation, so there is just little maintenance required for teak wood. In fact, teak is weatherproof and does not need to be stored during the winter or covered with a protective tarpaulin.

If you want to keep the teak's original golden honey finish, you can regularly lubricate the wood. This works well when the furniture is indoors, but oiled teak is prone to mould and can have irregular colours when outdoors. Therefore, instead of oiling the blush, it is advisable to apply a protective sealant to preserve the natural colour of the blush or do both just in case.

2.    Shorea also known as Barau- This dense tropical hardwood has a high oil concentration that reduces the potential for rot and protects it from insects. Like teak, Shora turns into an attractive silver-grey colour after going outdoors. All you need to do is gently clean the outoodr wooden furniture once or twice a year with a soft cloth.

The wood should be oiled every few months to maintain its original warm reddish-brown hue. As with blush, be sure to clean and dry the blush before applying flaxseed oil, blush oil, or blusher. For safety, test the oil in a small, unobtrusive area. Rub it with a small paintbrush or soft cloth and let the surface dry before checking if you like the colour.

3.    Eucalyptus also known as Jara- This hardwood has less oil and is less water-resistant than teak or shola. As a result, humid environments and climates with dramatic seasonal temperature changes can cause eucalyptus expansion and contraction, compromising the structural integrity of outdoor patio lounge furniture and deck flooring. The most common result is cracking. Therefore, it is recommended to apply polyurethane type varnish to the eucalyptus several times a year and seal it. It not only maintains the strength of the wood and protects it from rot and insects, but also gives eucalyptus a rich colour and glossy finish. Clean and dry your eucalyptus furniture before applying a few coats of protective sealer. Allow each coat to dry for 2 hours before applying the next coat.

Always wipe off any accumulated water after rainfall to minimize contact with unwanted moisture. Avoid exposing eucalyptus tables and chairs to direct sunlight, if they are placed on the patio or outdoor areas. Ultraviolet rays can break down wood fibres over time and cause discolouration. When you're not using furniture, you can also use a breathable protective vinyl cover to make your furniture last longer and stay in top condition.

Note- For best guidance contact your outdoor Lounge store from where you have bought the furniture and ask them for the rights maintenance tips specific type of furniture.
