When we buy perfume, the only that comes to one’s mind is how to wear it properly, how to make it long lasting, where to apply and how much to apply. Among all this, we all forget the basic of perfumery that will help in keeping your perfume as it is for a longer period – storage. The way you keep your perfumes can affect their life, sillage, longevity as well as fragrance. If you wish to maintain the sanctity of your scent for a longer period of time getting your money’s worth, storing it correctly is the way to do it. Here’s how you can do it:

Cool and dark places are best:- Perfumes are basically compositions of alcohol and perfume essence. This is a very delicate balance which can change with the sudden change of heat and light around. As you must be aware of the alcohol is quite vulnerable to heat and light as well it can denature the perfume essence affecting the smell, the perfume, the colour permanently with long term exposure. To avoid all this, you must store the new perfumes in a cool and dark place such as your dresser drawer or cupboard. In case you do not have such a place, it is better to make some room for your scents somewhere in the room.

Keep them away from humidity: Some of us who are always in a hurry tend to store perfumes in the washroom where they are easily available right after we take a bath. It might be convenient for you but not for those little perfume bottles. The humidity mixed with the heat tends to affect their composition changing the quality. Never store your perfumes in the bathroom if you wish to use them for the long term. This is applicable to your deodorants as well along with best new perfumes.

Place in upright position: If you tend to just throw your perfume bottles in the drawer to fit them all, maybe you need to avoid this. If a perfume is not placed in an upright position it can cause pressure to build up in the bottle causing leakage. Moreover, the bottle can also get damaged or the spray nozzle can get damaged. After spending so much on international perfumes, this is the last thing you wish to happen to your scents. Store your scents in an upright position. If you have a perfume stand, use it.

Away from direct sunlight: We all love to flaunt our perfumes on the dresser, but if that place is getting direct sunlight, you need to move your scents away. Direct sunlight will not only affect the alcohol base with heat but can also cause pressure to build up causing leakage. Keep your perfume bottles and boxes away from direct sunlight.

It is best to keep the perfume bottles in the box that they came in. These boxes are designed to hold the perfume bottles in a safe and cool area maintaining the quality. You can store these boxes easily in the cupboard or dresser drawer away from the direct sunlight. Following all these simple tips can help in maintaining the sillage, the longevity of the scent making it last longer.
