Flat Belly Overnight Review Fad diets will slow down your metabolism in the long run and they will leave you cranky and tired, not even to mention all the other health risks you may encounter if you follow such eating plans.

But how do you know if the meal plan that you want to follow is a fad or if it's a healthy one? To help you follow only healthy, sustainable eating plans, here's a list of the things that you need to check out for; these things will tell you that it is indeed a fad diet.

It promises a quick fix

On a healthy meal plan you can expect to lose safely only about 2 to 2.5 pounds a week. If the diet promises that you are going to lose much more weight than that, you can expect that it is a fad diet.

If there's a promise of losing 20 pounds in a month, red lights of danger must flash in your head. It's very unhealthy and unsafe to follow such eating plans which promotes a quick fix. If you want to lose weight on the long run, you have to follow a more sensible mealplan.

It's super low in calories

If the total calorie consumption is lower than 1200 calories a day, you must know that it's a fad. Nobody can survive on less than a 1000 calories per day. All that will happen on such a low calorie meal plan, is that your body will think it's in starvation mode and it will hold onto your excess fat and start to burn muscle. Your metabolism will also be slowed down if you follow such low calorie diets and you would have to eat less to sustain your weight.

Focuses only on one or two food groups

Fad diets love to include only one or two food groups and would totally exclude the other vital food groups that you need to be healthy. So it only includes cabbage or protein, it's for sure a fad diet and you should stay away. Your body needs all the food groups to manage well and to help you lose weight.
