Generally windows computer systems slow down over a period of time when you install more and more software on it. Every program you install needs space on hard disk, processing power and some amount of RAM to run itself. If you install too many programs they will consume all hardware resources and your computer will become slow. But, do not worry! There are reliable and trusted ways that can help you to optimize your computer speed.

Let’s list out ways in which we can keep our windows operating system run smoothly and that too with little or no money.

Check Start up Programs
If your computer is taking more than a couple of minutes to boot, then it is the time to check application that runs on computer start up. There might be some application that does not need to run on windows start up and you need to disable them.

There are numerous applications that are built in such a way that they automatically start when windows is started. Software developers usually set their application to run in the background and you can’t see them running. There might be few applications that you rarely use but they keep running in the background. These applications eat up a lot of precious memory and slow down the windows start up.

To disable these unnecessary programs that delay the start up, you can download easily available tools like Autoruns or you can go with Windows built in utility, i.e. MSCONFIG. All you have to do is in the search bar type “MSCONFIG.” A dialog box will appear and under the startup tab, you can easily disable applications that you don’t want to run on Windows start up.

Clear It Out
If you are facing problems during internet surfing, there are more than a couple of things that you can change to enhance browsing experience. If internet explorer is not working well, you can download and install other browsers like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Almost all modern web browsers have option to clean browsing history, cache, temporary internet files and cookies.

If you are not much proficient with computers, you can use a good free pc optimizer utility. Such software will make sure that temporary internet files and other browsing data is deleted from all the browsers. This will help you to optimize internet browsing speed.

Remove Unwanted Applications
There might be some applications installed on your computer that you no longer use. Go to Control Panel and then Programs and Features, this will pop up a list of application that are currently install on your computer. You need to find out such programs that you no longer use, just uninstall them. This will save lots of space on your hard drive as well as improve performance of your computer. Apart from this you can also choose some alternative application that consumes less resource then default ones like you can use VLC player instead of default Windows Media Player to save hardware resources and memory.

Hardware Upgrade
If you are using an old computer, consider upgrading hardware as these days most of the software applications are designed as per the modern hardware specification and they put heavy load on older hardware. One of the most important components that you should consider is RAM. In today’s scenario a computer must have at least 2 GB of RAM.

Automatic Updates
We all know there is nothing more annoying than updates. We all now and then click on “remind me later” and avoid the notifications. If you want to avoid those annoying notifications, simply follow these steps, Go to My Computer > Properties > Automatic Updates. Ensure you have selected the option “Download and Install Automatically”.

And to take care of the rest, it is always better to install a pc optimizer / registry cleaner utility that is capable of doing regular maintenance of your computer.
