How to Set Up Temporary Fencing

by Larry Chetan Business

As the name suggests, temporary fencing is a fence installed for a given period and then dismantled after its use. Most commonly, such fences are used to barricade construction sites, crowd control, or for temporary privacy and security. If you need the best ways of using the fences, here are tips on how to install temporary fencing as well as the DO's and DON'T's.

Site Inspection

Inspecting the site that the fence will be set on is crucial before commencing the installation. This helps to reduce the risks of injuries just in case the site has underground power cables, gas lines, or other hazardous materials.

For additional precautions:

·         Always ensure you have identified all the hazards that may affect you as well as everyone else working around that area.

·         Assess any injuries that may affect your workers and the public.

·         Ensure to minimize any risks you have identified and consult with other people in the area.

·         Keep on re-checking the controls and make the necessary changes quite often.

·         Make sure to have all the necessary permits, assessments, SWMS, and inductions.

·         Ensure that all the team members installing the fences wear PPE.

·         Make sure that the team follows all the relevant site safety rules and regulations as well as the set legislative requirements at all times.

DO’s

Always do:

·         Ensure the transportation vehicle is solid and grounded firmly and evenly while offloading.

·         Maintain a considerable distance from mobile plants and suspended loads.

·         Ensure to work away from slewing plants, mobile plants, power lines, or the public.

·         Ensure that the feet of the fence are stacked, strapped, and shrink-wrapped on pallets for transport and storage.

·         Make sure that any debris on site is removed and that the ground is firm, solid, and dry.

DON’T’s

Always ensure that you do not:

·         Use faulty equipment or tools.

·         Install the fence without the recommended height safety equipment if the risk of falls is greater than two meters.

·         Impede roadways, pathways, or walkways near the site you are setting it on.

·         Deviate from work plans, instructions, and permits.

·         Disfigure attached signage or shade the cloths covering the unbraced panels.

·         Install unbraced panels where there is a higher risk of the fence moving or falling over.

·         Work on or install the fences under substance influence or the influence of alcohol

·         Install the fences if you are fatigued.
