Exceptions/exclusions are the files that you do not want to get scanned while the antivirus scans the system for virus. You should be sure for these files and folders before setting them as exceptions that they do not have any virus. Bitdefender allows you set such exceptions. Learn how to set them with the help of following steps:

Accessing the Exception Wizard:

Open bitdefender by double-clicking the icon on the desktop or from the start menu by going to the ‘All programs’.
When the program opens, go to the Settings in the top right corner of the screen. Go to the User interface Settings and then click on Expert.
Press the OK button for saving the changes.
Open the Antivirus tab, in the left of the window to open the controls that manage the antivirus scanner.
Go to the Exclusions tab in the upper screen and then click on the checkbox for Enable Exclusions so that the exceptions are enabled.
Press the + button in the top of the list for the Exclusion Wizard to start. You can use the suitable section below for making an exception for a certain file or folder.

Excepting a File or Folder

Go to the Exclude by File/ Folder Path radio button.
Click on Next and then go to the Browse option for opeing a file browser.
Navigate to the location of the file or the folder that you want to exempt from scanning.
Press the Add button for adding the file or folder that you selected to the list of Exceptions.
You can repaet the above step for all the other files that you want to exempt from scanning.
Give a right click on the Scan type column of the exception path that you want to change.
Click on ‘On demand’, ‘On Access’ or on both depending on if you want the path to be ignored during user requested scans, automatic scans or while both.
Press the Next button after modifying all your Exception paths.
