How to select the Perfect Piano Removal Team for your Piano?

by Gary Almond Freelancer
A piano is a big investment. Despite their majestic size and grand exterior, pianos are inherently very delicate objects that need to be handled properly. When you are considering shifting your piano from even one room to the other you should consider the services of a professional piano mover who has wide and extensive experience moving every sort of piano from baby pianos to grand pianos. You would do well to consider the professional piano mover over the household mover in this case, as the latter does not have the sufficient training or the equipment needed to move such a delicate instrument.

Moreover if not moved with utmost caution your piano might get irreparably damaged or cause insurmountable damage to nearby objects and people. You get into an extremely risky and potentially lose lose situation when you hire the services of a general household moving company. However when you are hiring a professional piano mover, there are certain criteria which you have to keep in mind. Firstly the piano mover has to be located in close proximity, or at least near the vicinity to the place you are moving it to. Piano is an enormous and heavy object and it can become very difficult, if not impossible to maintain such an instrument for a long indefinite amount of time. Secondly you must ensure that the piano mover has good, reliable credentials and testimonials.

If possible, you can call up piano teachers and piano shops and ask for a referral. You also have to determine that the piano removal team consists of professionals who are well trained and experience in the art of piano removal. One of the most important things to check is whether the piano removal company you are hiring has adequate insurance. Quality insurance is the hallmark of a top piano removal company.

They should ideally have three types of insurance viz : Commercial and/or automotive insurance - wherein the company is insured against damage to vehicles and property, Cartage or content insurance - wherein the company is insured against damage to the piano, and labour safety Insurance - where the company is insured for any injuries sustained by a member of the piano removal team. It should also be insured against public liability and freight etc.

It is the quality of the insurance a piano moving company has which will tell you the story of whether they are able to move your piano in its new destination in a safe and secure manner. Yet another way to ascertain or evaluate the quality of the service your piano removal company is providing is to observe whether they come sufficiently equipped on the day of removing your piano or not. They should come armed with piano skids, slings, ramps and should use state of art equipment such as piano dollies, which make carrying the pianos really much easier. They should also have access to other tools such as closed air trolleys in which the piano will be covered up with soft yet resistant canvas clothes as they are often quite susceptible to the heat and dust from the outside atmosphere.
