Given below are the best possible ways to sort out QuickBooks not loading company file:

Solution 1. Download the latest release of QuickBooks
  • Click on the Help menu and choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Select the Update Now tab.
  • To start the download, click the Get Updates button.
  • Restart the application after the download finishes.
  • Install the software when prompted.

If the error persists, move to the next solution. 

Solution 2. Find out what’s causing the error
To check if the issue is caused due to the company file or there is some problem in the QuickBooks itself. You need to try opening the sample file. Let’s have a look at the steps given below:

  • Open up the Windows Start menu and then File Explorer.
  • Seek for the QuickBooks.exe file in the QuickBooks folder.
  • Press the Cntrl key and click twice on the QuickBooks.exe file until the QuickBooks open. 
  • Once QuickBooks opens, open the company file. If the file doesn’t open, select the Open a sample file option.

Now, if the sample file does not open, the problem is with the program. If it successfully opens, try the next solution to fix it.

Solution 3. Turn off hosting on your system
The server workstation is the one that hosts the company file. The Host Multi-User Access option is turned off.

  • Launch QuickBooks on your workstation.
  • Click on the File menu and select Utilities.
  • If you see the “Host Multi-User Access” option, don’t click it.
  • This system is not causing the error. Move to next workstation.  

Move to the server computer after checking the workstation. This computer hosts the company file.

  • On your server computer, open up QuickBooks.
  • Click on the File menu and select Utilities.
  • Select the Host Multi-User Access option.
  • Repeat the same process and choose Stop Hosting Multi-User Access. It will reset the multi-user mode.
  • Follow the same one more time and click Host Multi-User Access.

If you still get the error, proceed to the following solution.

Solution 4. Move your company file to the desktop
If your company file is causing the issue, moving the file may resolve the issue.

  • Click on the Start menu.
  • Open File Explorer.
  • Search the company file with .qbw in your QuickBooks folder.
  • Right-click on the company file and choose Copy.
  • Paste the file on Windows desktop.
  • Edit the name of the company file by adding Test.
  • Open up QuickBooks and get to the File menu.
  • Next, click Open or restore company.
  • Select the company file you copied on the desktop and choose Open. 
  • If the copied company file opens successfully, there is no issue with the file location.
  • Now, move the company file back to the original location and use it as your main company file.
  • Search for the original file you copied and rename it by adding “old” at the end of the file name.
