How to Reset an Acer eRecovery Password
The eRecovery tool of Acer is a vendor-specific method which can be used for restoring the system to its factory settings or to the custom settings which you can create and store on your hard drive or an external device. It also has a backup utility which can be used for backing up data on your hard disc or external device. To access eRecovery, you must use the default password "000000" or a password that you select. It's important to save a custom password in a safe place. However, if you lose or forget it, you can reset the Acer eRecovery password.

- From the start menu, open the command prompt by typing ‘cmd’ in the search box. Now enter ‘diskpart’ in the black command prompt box.
- The eRecovery passwords are stored on your computer in the PQService, which is a rescue partition. This partition can be located using the diskpart utility from the command prompt. The diskpart runs a scan on your system and then comes up with the hidden partitions.
- From there, enter ‘rescan’ for running a system configuration check. When the scan is complete, enter ‘disk lists’ for bringing up the available disks and then enter “select disc 0’.
- Enter ‘list partition’ for viewing a list of partitions on your disk. Look for a partition that has no name and has a size of 10 GB. Enter ‘select partition (number)’.
- Check the type of partition and then unhide it. When the partition is type 27, unhide it by typing "set id=07 override," and if it is of type 12, then unhide it by typing "set id=0B" at the command prompt.
- Type ‘select disk 0’ at the command prompt, and then type ‘list volume’ for viewing the contents of the disk and returning to the disk containing PQService.
- The PQService will appear in the list along with a number. Enter "select volume (number)" and then assign PQService a new drive letter so that you are allowed to open and view it from your computer.
- Now type ‘assign letter=f’ in the command prompt.
