How to Remove Scratches from Your Watch Glass

Watches are certainly one of the most stylish accessories in a person's wardrobe. They have an elegant and sophisticated appeal that can instantly elevate the look for any occasion. However, just like any other accessory, they too are susceptible to scratches and shattering. A fresh scratch on a flawless time-piece purchased from one of the best watch brands for men can be disheartening, especially if it is a brand new purchase. The good news is that you can remove the scratches (if they are not too deep) from the glass surface with the help of some basic tools. Listed below are the steps you can follow to remove small and shallow scratches from the watch glass.

Step1: Tape the bezel- The first thing you need to do is protect the bezel before you start with polishing the watch. To do this, use a polyimide tape, cut it into small pieces (about an inch) and use it to cover the entire metal around the crystal. You can overlap the pieces of tape to ensure that the metal is covered completely.

Step 2: Begin with buffing- The next step is to set up the buffing system. Apply a thin layer of the polishing compound to the buffing wheel. Hold it for 2-3 seconds against the turning wheel. A useful tip here is not to over-apply the compound as that can come in the way of your repair process.

Step 3: Continue with the buffing process- Press the watch crystal with medium pressure against the buffing wheel. You need to do it evenly to make sure you don't over polish a certain section of the crystal.

Step 4: Take a break and check- When moving the crystal against the wheel, it is advised to stop frequently in between the process and check the progress. It will also ensure that the crystal does not get overheated.

Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4- If you think there is no progress in polishing the crystal, apply a thin layer of the polishing compound, just like you did before. Keep repeating steps 3 and 4 until you see no scratches on the surface of the crystal.

Step 6: Stop the motor and remove the tape- When you no longer see the scratch, stop the motor and remove the tape from the watch crystal. Also, remove the excess compound and any other adhesive left on the watch case with the help of a soft cloth. Your watch crystal will look new again and you can continue wearing it like before.
