Email account passwords are considered as one of the most critical and crucial information that a customer has related to his email account. Customers forgetting or misplacing his passwords was not a common issue a few years ago when the email communication was rarely used only for official communication. However, now a day, owing to the range of services which has moved online, customers are increasingly maintaining multiple email accounts in the online space. Due to this, it is obvious on behalf of customers to lose their passwords. The Gmail help mail technical support team is aware of this issue and has therefore launched a system using which customers can easily get their account recovered by following a simple set of steps as designed in the email portal.

Customers can reset their password by first clicking on the hyper link displayed as ‘Need Help’ in the log in page. On clicking on this hyper link, the user would be prompted to a screen where in all the options which can potentially cause issues in log in. Among these, the users need to select the option which is related to password recovery. On selecting the correct option, the user would be asked to enter any of the previously entered passwords which were set for the account. On entering any of the previous passwords, the same is set for the account by default. This is an authentication check which has been added by Gmail. However, in case the user is not able to enter any of the previous passwords, the contact points registered to the account are fetched and a verification code or link is sent to their registered addresses. The user can then use this code to recover their account. This method, however, would work only when the user has an active alternate email address or mobile number registered to the account.

In case users do not have any updated active contact points, they can always get in touch with the Gmail customer care helpline support team seeking their guidance on the entire password recovery process. The support team would first authenticate the identity of the user and then based on the findings, a verification code is sent to the registered addresses. In case there is no alternate address registered, the customer support team assists the customers to include any of their active email address to their account. In both the cases, users are recommended to change their account password in the first log in itself as they are system generated codes, and can be easily tracked.
