How to Recover Lost Computer Data

by Amy H. Editor
Computer is an indispensable work partner in our life. In the use of computers, a variety of reasons may lead to loss of data, such as mistakenly delete system files, or document is not saved after computer power failure. Here is a summary of the common data loss, and the relative solutions.

Why is computer data lost?
Case 1: Computer virus causes data loss
You can install antivirus software to protect your computer, but the virus can also very powerful. When the hard disk data is damaged and lost, restore it as quickly as possible.

Case 2: Misformatting or mistakenly deleted
There are also a lot of cases where the wrong operation can format or delete a file. If you delete the file manually, you can restore the data in the recycle bin. But if the time is longer, or simply empty the recycle bin, use the data recovery software to see if you can recover.

Case 3: Loss of partition permission
Some people want to re-partition the disk because they think their computer partition is unreasonable, but improper operation can also result in the loss of the partition permission and the loss of data.

Case 4: Emergency
There may also be a power outage or a sudden restart when using a computer, resulting in missing files or the file being edited is not stored.

How to Recover Lost Data
Once we know the reasons for the data loss, we can find a way to recover the data according to the cause.
1. Restore the configuration file
When a computer suddenly loses power, resulting in a loss of configuration files, the following methods can be used.
(1)Restart the computer, and enter the safe mode (press F8). In the C: \ documents and setting path, find the "Administrator" folder, and set up the "show all files". Copy the folders and articles on the desktop to other paths.;
(2)Back to path C:\document and setting, delete the "Administrator" folder;
(3)Restart the computer again, the configuration of the local folders have been deleted, so the computer will automatically create a folder contains the correct configuration files. Copy the favorites, desktop file path and paste to the configuration folder. Choose Yes when prompted whether to cover. At this point the desktop will revert to its original appearance.

2. Restore from backup
If you have already backed up the data, you can retrieve the data with the backup.
2.1 recovery of cloud backup
The data has been backed up to the cloud disk, so you can log in to the cloud backup and download the original backup data. This allows you to view the original file.
2.2 word document recovery
The Word file has an "auto-restore" feature, and after we've edited it for a while, Word will automatically save the data. We can better save Word document data by setting the saved time and location.
Set method: enter "word options", click "save" on the left, check "save automatic recovery time interval", and set the time.
When the WORD document is closed due to a computer problem, we can find the saved file by "automatically restoring the file location" path.

3. How to restore data without backup
If we do not have backup data, and we can't retrieve the data through the recycle bin, we can use third-party software  like RePicvid to recover the data.
1.After running the software, select the scanning mode that you need on the interface: "Photo/Graphic", “Video/DV”, “Audio/Music” or "All File Type";
2.After selecting the disk that needs to restore data, click “Scan” and wait for the scan result.
3.After completing the scan, you can find the type of file you want to recover by selecting the left side, and check the file on the right side to recover them.

Through the above several methods, you can restore the computer lost files. However, we still have to suggest that you usually back up important data.
