How to Protect & Maintain the Windshield – Car Glass

by Deepika Singh Writer
Windshields undergo exhaustive tests during manufacturing before they are made available for the public. Even though they are tough, they can incur damage frequently and easily. Although they don’t shatter anymore given to the addition of the layer of poly-vinyl butyral in the middle of two sheets of glass, it can still incur chip and cracks.

If you have recently spent a Honda City or a Skoda Fabia windshield price on a replacement due to damage, you must make sure that it doesn’t happen in the future. Not only does a damaged windshield mean sparing time to get it repaired or replaced, but spending hefty sums on the same. Here a few tips for you to maintain and protect the newly replaced windshield:

Driving habits

How you drive the vehicle pays an important role. You must know that small pebbles and stones are stuck in the tires of other vehicles which might fly and hit your car’s windshield. Therefore, you are advised to drive within considerable distance of the preceding vehicle. There is a ‘Two-second rule’ which means you must be in a two-second distance from other vehicle in ideal conditions. Be more careful when the weather is unpredictable. Moreover, you should drive with a couple of car lengths away from the car in front of you. Adjust your speed accordingly and under no circumstances should you be tailgating the car.

Windshield wipers

Windshield wipers are extremely important and they wear out more often than you think. At the most, they might last up to a year and ideally, they should be replaced within 6 months. While they assist the driver during downpours, they can severely damage the windshield if not replaced in time. In the first place, they won’t clean the windshield properly which might lead to accidents during rains. If the rubber of the wiper blade is damaged, it may streak or even scratch the windshield. In extreme cases, when the frame of the wipers is severely damaged, it may even initiate cracks in the windshield which might lead to a need for replacement. For Ford or Skoda car glass protection, ensure changing the wiper blades on time.

Clean the windshield regularly

Car glass, irrespective of whether it is new or not, should be cleaned regularly. Dust, debris and leaves are more detrimental to the windshield than you think. Dirty glass is prone to scratches and discoloration and lead to an obstructed view on the road. If the windshield glass is damaged it must be protected against dust and superlative temperatures.

Parking habits

Always park the car under a shade or in the garage to protect it from direct sunlight and falling objects. High temperatures make the glass to expand which can initiate cracks. Parking the car inside will also protect the windshield from children playing with balls in the street and falling branches of the tree. Finally, it won’t be subject to acts of vandalism.
