How to Prepare Properly for NIFT Admission 2017-18 Entrance Tests
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has been given the title of “an institute of national importance”, at par with the IIT and IIM institutes of our country. So, for students interested in making a career in the fashion industry, NIFT is their elite institute of choice.
The NIFT Entrance Forms 2017 have been released, so your preparation should be in full swing now. As with any entrance exam to a premier educational institution, structured preparation is required along with a creative flair. In order to crack the exam, let us first understand its structure.
NIFT Entrance Examination Structure:
The NIFT Entrance Exam 2017/18 consists of two main sections to be written on the same day, the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Aptitude Test (GAT).
Creative Ability Test (CAT):
This is the examination of your creative faculties. In the three hour test, your perspective drawing skills, 3-dimension concepts, space and figure designing abilities, illustration and coloring abilities, figure and color interpretation, visual communication and many other aspects of creativity and visual designing are checked and evaluated.
General Aptitude Test (GAT):
This NIFT admission 2017-18 test evaluates your analytical, reasoning and English language skills. The total time allotted is two hours with 150 questions in all and there are several sub-categories as explained below.
i) General English – There are 35 questions in his section based on the language’s usage, vocabulary and grammar
ii) Comprehension – Passages are provided and you have to answer 30 comprehension-based questions
iii) Quantitative Reasoning – The mathematical part of the exam comprises of 25 numerical problems
iv) Analytical Reasoning – These 30 questions are IQ-based reasoning skills test
v) Business Domain – Your general knowledge, current affairs and subject awareness is tested through the 30 questions of this segment
Preparation Tips for the Exam:
The NIFT Entrance Exam 2017/18 is geared towards testing your general and creative faculties, both of which are essential for success in the fashion industry. Keeping this fact in mind, here are some tips to help you crack the examination.
i) Practice time-bound answers – answering 150 questions in 120 minutes gives you around 48 seconds for each answer on an average. Accordingly, divide your time among the section based on strengths and weaknesses
ii) For the English segment, try to increase your vocabulary as much as possible. Read English literature and current affairs magazine and note words you do not know clearly. Refer to them separately later
iii) Brush up your high-school mathematics for the quantitative reasoning section, along with dedicated practice sessions for the IQ-based analytical reasoning section
iv) For the CAT part, try finding a teacher or mentor to help you
