How to Prepare Powdered Milk (Artificial Milk) for Baby

by Ankita Sharma Content Writer

Breast milk is the basis of nutrition for babies. First milk, in particular, contains many ingredients that protect the baby from illness. When breast milk cannot be given due to the influence of the mother's own illness or depending on the circumstances of the mother's work, artificial milk (powdered milk) is used.

The amount you drink varies from baby to baby, so please do not give it too much. If you're happy to drink and you're gaining weight, don't worry. If you have any concerns about breastfeeding, consult with a midwife at the medical institution where you gave birth.

How to make artificial milk (powdered milk)

When making powdered milk, it is important to dissolve it in the exact strength determined by the product. In well water and side water, germs can make your baby sick. For baby formula and hydration, use tap water, well water that has passed water quality standards, or water in a sealed container for milk preparation.

Before preparing powdered milk, be sure to wash your hands, dissolve the milk in boiling water at 70 ° C or higher, cool it sufficiently, and make sure that it is at about body temperature before drinking. Be sure to throw away any leftover milk or milk that has been prepared for more than 2 hours.

Weaning period

About weaning

“Weaning” is the process of starting to feed a baby who has only taken breast milk or artificial milk in a smooth and ground state, and gradually increasing the hardness, amount, and type of food. It is appropriate to start feeding smooth ground food around 5 to 6 months.

No nutritional significance has been identified for feeding fruit juice to babies before the start of weaning. In addition, the use of spoons, etc. is usually accepted after the start of weaning, as it is accepted that the spoon enters the mouth in the process of diminishing and disappearing the feeding reflex from about 5 to 7 months after birth. By gradually weaning, you will develop the ability to chew and swallow.

After about 9 to 10 months, you will start eating by hand. By eating by hand, you can practice eating by yourself and motivate yourself to eat.

Guideline for how to proceed with weaning

Weaning should be recommended according to the growth and development of the child. Also, let's devise so that you can acquire the rhythm of life and experience the joy of eating.

Note) Points of baby food

A. Food type and combination

Increase the variety of foods as weaning progresses. By the time you proceed to a meal twice a day, you should have a meal that combines cereals, vegetables/fruits, and protein foods. Baby food can be used properly.

① When starting weaning, start with rice porridge (rice), which is less likely to cause allergies. When starting a new food, give it one scoop at a time and increase the amount while watching the baby. If you get used to it, you will increase the variety of potatoes, vegetables, and fruits. Honey should not be used until 1 year of age to prevent infant botulism.

②After 9 months of age, iron is likely to be deficient, so use milk for cooking and infant formula instead of dairy products. If weaning does not proceed smoothly even after 9 months of age, follow-up milk can be used in combination.

B. Cooking form/cooking method

As the weaning progresses, give something that is easy to eat and cooked. Children are less resistant to bacteria, so give due consideration to hygiene when cooking.

① Boil the rice so that the baby can crush it in the mouth. At first, use "mashing gayu", and when you get used to it, crush it roughly, proceed without crushing, and shift to soft rice.

② Vegetables and protein foods should be cooked smoothly at first and then gradually coarsened.

③ Regarding seasoning, no seasoning is required at the beginning of weaning. When using seasonings such as salt and sugar according to the progress of weaning, cook lightly and deliciously while making the best use of the taste of each food. Use a small number of oils and fats.

Completion of weaning

Completion of weaning is the ability to chew tangible foods, with most of the energy and nutrients coming from foods other than breast milk or formula (milk powder).

The period is around 12 to 18 months old, but it does not mean that you are not breastfeeding or formulating. By this time, you will have three meals a day and one or two snacks a day.

Early childhood

Eating habits in early childhood

Early childhood is the time when the basics of eating habits are laid. It is important to get into the habit of eating regularly, to pay attention to the amount and nutritional balance of snacks that are part of the diet for children, and to reduce the likes and dislikes of food.

It is important for the whole family to create a fun dining atmosphere. There is uneven eating during this time. If you are in a good mood and your daily life does not change, as usual, do not force your diet or feed it sloppy.

If you want to increase breast milk production then use the ayurvedic lactation supplement which is especially for mothers.
