How to prepare for Interview

by Anna Fowler Internet Marketing

Interview is the selection procedure of a suitable candidate for a specific job. The employers judge their potential employees on certain parameters before selection. But with the increasing global financial crisis this selection procedure has become really tough. Despite having the relevant qualification for the job, the candidates are sometimes rejected in the interview. The reason for this is they don’t prepare for interview well in advance. The inevitable step for interview is preparation. Here are few interview tips following which you can land a desired job.

Before the Interview:

1) Ensure that your resume is updated having all the details of your experiences, skills and qualifications in chronological order the latest being first. It should have your contact details including phone number and email id. The resume should be properly formatted and its length shouldn’t be more than two pages. The details should be concise and to the point.  Don’t ever lie on your resume, mention those qualifications and skills only that you possess. It is best to get it proofread by someone else so that the errors can be corrected beforehand.

2) Prepare a brief summary to answer the very first question usually asked by the interviewer “Tell me about yourself”. Have a mock interview with someone to prepare for this easy but tricky question. Remember that, in response to this question, the interviewer desired to know how eligible you are for the applied post. So don’t narrate your family story but talk about your skill sets which make you suitable for the position.

3) Research the organisation you are applying to by searching its information over the internet and other resources like magazines, news and the people already working there. Understand their goals and then analyse how you can help in achieving them.

4) Collect the route details of the company’s location so you can reach on time.

5) The top interview tip is to have a good sleep at the night before the interview and you will feel fresh on the D-day.

On the Interview day:

1) Look for the dress code mentioned with the job requirements and dress accordingly. Remember that your attire should be neat and tidy. If dress code isn’t mentioned then wear a business formal. Trim your hair and be clean shaved.

2) Reach at least fifteen minutes before the schedules time. Sip a glass of water after reaching there and relax.

3)  Be patient and wait for your turn. Don’t ask about it again and again from the interview coordinator. Remember that your patience is judged here.

4) Greet your interviewer with a warm smile after meeting the interviewer and have a firm handshake. Be seated only when you are asked for and sit erect. Avoid playing with your pen, bag, hair or other things.

5) Maintain eye contact with the interviewer during the interview and answer the questions confidently. Talk in English during interview to impress the interviewer. Do not forget that first impression is the last impression. So, try to speak in English and do not commit any grammar mistake during interview.

6)  The interview is a platform to sell your skills. So your answers should show your calibre to drive the organisation towards its goals. Put in all your efforts to convince the interviewer that you possess these skills and company always comes first for you. Be polite, calm and avoid over boasting.

7) Ask for the clarification when in doubt. This is better than giving wrong answers.

8) Greet the interviewer once again after the interview.

Post Interview:

1)  Follow up with the organisation if it doesn’t contact you within the specified time. Get to know whether or not you are selected. Try to know the reason if rejected.

2) Don’t be disheartened even if you don’t get the job. Identify your areas of improvement, work on them and prepare for the next one.

These are some of the best interview tips to be followed while preparation.
