by Harleen Kaur Content Writing

Taking your pick from the vast array of tampons on display can be overwhelming and picking the right one for you is even more difficult. Here are a few things to remember when picking one!

How many times has it happened to you that you have made up your mind and have gone tampon shopping and you have ended up getting immensely confused with the kind that you should get for yourself? Labels like super, regular and super plus confuse one even further. So, let us simplify the selection process, shall we? Check out the tips here about how you should choose the tampon that best suits you.

Size
More often than not, most tampon brands manufacture close to 4 sizes: light, regular, super and super plus. If this was not already obvious, you should choose the tampon size according to your flow. That is, the heavier your flow is, the bigger the tampon you use should be!
The best thing to do during your cycle is it mix up the different sizes available to your advantage.

For examples, during your heaviest flow days use the super or super plus menstrual tampons and on the days that you have a lighter flow, use the regular or light tampons. Another thing you can do is buy a mixed box that is available with most brands. The best thing about these multi-box pack is that they contain a few pieces of each kind of tampon that the company manufactures, thus pretty much taking the much-needed care of your period for 2 months at best!

The more used to you get using tampons, the easier it will be for you to customize the whole experience for yourself. However, it is also of the utmost importance that you make sure you are reading the signs your body is letting you on. If in case, to deal with heavier flow, you decide to use a super plus tampon but find it hard and painful to insert, then don’t use it! Instead use a normal super tampon and change it more frequently.

The Applicator Type

Though initially tampons were produced and distributed without applicators, the ones that are available in the market nowadays, produced by the various brands come with an applicator. The kind of applicator you are looking for will also determine the tampons price that you will be bearing. In this day and age, there are essentially three types of tampons available when it comes to the applicator.

1.    Plastic: The plastic applicator is one of the most common types of applicator used in the manufacturing of tampons by most brands that also produce sanitary napkins. Plastic applicators have been known to be the best when it comes to allowing for the smoothest entry of the tampon in your vaginal canal. They also happen to be the best for first-time users.

2.    Cardboard: Though rare, there are brands that also manufacture tampons with cardboard applicators. These types of applicators are shaped same as their plastic counterparts but they happen to be environment friendly in comparison. Though these applicators are harder to use and are not as smooth as the plastic ones, they are ideal for people who live environmentally conscious lives and are also on a budget.

3.    No Applicator: The o.b.tampons that you might have seen online or in medical stores are essentially tampons that come without an applicator. Though the insertion process can get a tad messy, these happen to be great for people who are looking for something cheaper and more convenient to carry around!

The Brand

This point might be the least surprising of the lot as most of us always tend to gravitate towards something that is of a renowned brand rather than just experimenting with random ones. We know to do this because we are very aware about the quality that the various brands produce. Same goes for tampons. If you are not sure what kind of a tampon to get, go through the process via a trial and error method. Read the fine print on the tampon boxes and pick the brands you think might suit you the best. Experiment with these brands and then come to a conclusion about what suits you the best.

Though choosing a tampon might seem daunting, the process, when done, will leave you feeling immensely happy and super comfortable during your periods without a doubt! So, go forth and shop without a single doubt!
