Have you always been interested in the field of electrical and electronic engineering? Well, it is one of the most rapidly advancing fields at the moment and if you can enrol in a leading college of Singapore which offers electrical and electronics engineering course and complete the course successfully, you will definitely have a bright career ahead of you. However, there are many engineering colleges in Singapore which offer the course and fresh out of high school, you might be perplexed by the choices you are faced with. Your choice of electrical engineering college might depend on a plethora of factors like where you live and where your parents went to college (if both or one of them happen to be engineers). To make your work a little easier, here are a few things that you should consider while picking a college.

Factors to consider -

·         Accreditation – The engineering college you pick must have the required accreditation. If all the Singapore engineering colleges you are considering are well known and reputed, then they are very likely to be accredited. However, if a couple of colleges in your wishlist are not very reputed, make sure that you check whether they have accreditation or not. Further, pursuing your engineering course from a college which is not accredited means that you are not eligible for financial aid.

·         Admission rate – If you have a few colleges in mind, start by checking their admission rates. Depending on your high school exam scores you might want to apply in a college with high admission rate or one with low admission rate. If you have aced your high school exams, you can apply for colleges with low admission rates. More often than not, colleges with low admission rates are some of the best ones.

·         Graduation rate – Graduating successfully after completing your engineering course is as important as taking admission in the college. So, while deciding on the college you want to go to, compare the percentage of students who successfully complete their engineering programmes from the colleges you are considering.

·         Student to faculty ratio – An engineering course is never easy and you will need all the guidance and assistance possible, so it is very important that you check the student to faculty ratio in the colleges. If a particular college has 700 students and about 25 professors, it is needless to say that it is unlikely for you to get any personal assistance. One-on-one assistance is required during engineering courses and it is always better to opt for colleges which have low student intake principles.

·         Intern-ship programmes offered – As a student of electrical or electronic engineering, it is very important that you complete an intern-ship programme; these programmes will give you industry experience and expose you to conditions and situations you need to get accustomed to once you start working. Always opt for a college which offers this industry experience to aspiring engineers, mostly during the final year of the course.

These and several other factors like on-campus living facilities, location, size of campus, extracurricular activities, alumni network and cost of curriculum should be considered while choosing an engineering college.
