How To Optimise Your Blog For SEO

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

Having a blog on your website can be exciting for both you and your readers. It’s a great means by which you can periodically inject your site with fresh content and keep visitors coming back for more. And hopefully, some of those readers will actually go on to do business with you!

However, your blog can’t start working all of this magic until you tempt people into making first-time visits to this part of your site. You can more easily do that by pressing enough of Google’s buttons to land your blog strong positions on its search engine results pages (SERPs).

So, here’s how to start pressing – focusing specifically on little things known as “keywords”.

Be careful which keywords you include

Aptly named, keywords can act as “keys” to unlock a steady stream of traffic to your blog posts. However, as with actual keys, you need to use the right keywords in order to unlock the right doors.

That’s why, before writing content for your blog, you should research what keywords you could use to attract people who would be especially inclined to buy the products or services your brand offers.

Include one or two “long-tail” keywords in each blog post

Once you know what long-tail keywords actually are, it will be easy for you to recognise them when you see them. These keywords string together many more words than the standard short keywords and take closer account of your audience’s specific goals.

So, if your business sells accessories for smartphones and you decide to post a blog article with tips for how to affix a screen protector more seamlessly, a long-tail keyword could be “how to apply a screen protector without creating bubbles” rather than just “screen protector”.

Don’t just place your keywords in the obvious parts of your blog posts

It’s easy to overlook that keywords shouldn’t be reserved solely for the main body of a blog post. A blog post’s title, for example, will be both Google’s and the reader’s earliest interaction with that article – which makes the title tag a very important place to put a keyword.

When first looking over your blog post’s listing on a SERP, a web user will probably – after the title – next look at the meta description that appears beneath it in the listing. Yes, that description’s another good place to include a keyword that could help spur a click.

As is now strongly evident, then, keywords can prove a crucial part of the SEO equation. That’s why keyword management and analysis are standard features of our SEO services companys Bronze, Silver and Gold SEO packages. In addition, the Gold plan includes increased regular blog post creation that can help to keep your website prominent in Google’s search rankings.
