How to Obtain ISI or BIS Certification

In the mid-1980s, the BIS Act 1936 was introduced after it was felt suitable to give ISIs operations statutory status. The ISI was renamed the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to facilitate the production of standardization and quality certification of products cooperatively with clearly specified procedural protections. 

ISI certification stands for the ‘Indian standard Institute’ and the ISI mark guarantees that an electrical product adheres to the Indian standards prescribed by the ISI. The process for obtaining an ISI mark is known as ISI certification. However, there are some electrical. An ISI mark is compulsory before it can be sold in the market.

Manufacturers require ISI Certification in India 

Currently, the Indian government has implemented changes to the manufacturing and trading sectors. These changes include higher standards by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Every manufacturer who wants to sell their product in the market is required to obtain ISI certificate.

Procedure for obtaining ISI Certificate 

1. Select the Product Code- The foremost step for obtaining an ISI certificate is to select a product quality that fulfills the guidelines prescribed by the BIS. The applicant must need to identify and choose the ISI (Indian Standard Institute) standard product code for their product. 

2. Fill up Application Form- After the selection of the product code, the applicant must need to apply for ISI Certification and fill up Form V for obtaining certification along with some prescribed registration fees. Furthermore, the applicant must pay the audit fees in addition to the registration fees for further inspection. 
Note- It is to be noted that, the applicant needs to submit the separate ISI forms for each product manufactured.

3. Inspection- The Inspection team from the BIS office will visit the applicant's factory premises. Moreover, the inspection team will examine the quality control and manufacturing process of the applicant’s factory. The BIS officer will collect some products for samples and then send them to the BIS-authorized testing laboratory. 

4. Submit Sample Report- The applicant needs to obtain the sample reports of the product from the authorized labs and submit them to BIS. 

5. Issuance of ISI Certificate- The BIS Authority will issue an ISI certificate of registration after completion of all the applications and verification of the submitted documents, test report, and application form.
