How To Make The Right Decisions When Looking For Outside Wood Burning Stoves

by Nancy J. VAT Consultant

Are you completely tired of having to move inside once its evening or when the weather begins to cool down? After all, the evening could be the best time to have that party with friends. You could change all this by getting outside wood burning stoves. It is quite simple and it could easily be added to your backyard. Just sit around the stove and have a great time in the company of your friends or family. The furnace will give you all the radiant heat you need for a nice and warm evening.

Selecting The Best Place And Setting Up Outside Wood Burning Stoves

The best places for these stoves are in your backyard. Keep it away from your house, sheds, barns and trees too because there can be some stray ember that can cause a fire, and you will want to avoid this. In most areas, there are no local regulations against this and so you can go ahead and get your outside wood stove and install it. Once you have found the location, you will need to dig up the vegetation around the place. Having removed the vegetation, you must then tamp and smooth the ground so that it is flat – the ground is now ready for your stove.

You can use brick pavers to make the foundation. Place the pavers at the place where you have dug out the ground. Pour some sand between your pavers to stop any wobbling and you are almost through with the foundation. You are now ready to make the stove.

Outside Wood Burning Stoves – The Different Types

These stoves are available in many different styles – so you will first have to determine which one is best for you. They can be made with different materials such as steel plate, stainless steel or boiler steel. Each of these materials has their own advantages and the cost of the stove will also vary depending on what has been used. The heating you can get will also depend on the material. Do remember that some materials will make the stove last for longer, but they usually cost more too.

Your decision should also depend on the fuel that you intend to use. Of course these outside stoves run on wood, but did you know that you could make many of them run on coal too? If you want the fire to last for a couple of days, then perhaps coal might be a better option. So when you are buying that wood burning stove, do ensure that it can also run on coal. Such stoves will usually have air intakes and special grates. You may not run it on coal all the time, but you will still want to keep your options open.

Determine the amount of water you want your stove to heat. If you need the water to be really hot, and if you need it frequently, then a larger stove may not be a good option for you. On the other hand if the water should be lukewarm, then a large volume stove can serve you better.

So give yourself sometime to consider all these factors and the various options you have when you are looking for outside wood burning stoves. Do not be hasty in your decision and you will end up making the right choice.
