Ingredients:

1 cup moong dal (split yellow lentils)

1 cup ghee (clarified butter)

1 cup sugar

3 cups water

1/2 tsp cardamom powder

1/4 cup chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds, cashews)

Instructions:

1. Rinse the moong dal thoroughly with water and soak it in water for 2 hours.

2. Drain the water and grind the soaked dal into a coarse paste. You can use a blender or a food processor for this step.

3. In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat ghee over medium heat.

4. Add the ground moong dal to the pan and stir constantly for 15-20 minutes, until the dal turns golden brown and starts to release a nutty aroma.

5. In a separate pan, bring water and sugar to a boil. Keep stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.

6. Add the sugar syrup to the moong dal mixture and stir well.

7. Keep stirring the mixture until the water evaporates and the halwa starts to thicken. This will take around 15-20 minutes.

8. Add cardamom powder and mix well.

9. Roast the chopped nuts in a separate pan with a little ghee until they turn golden brown.

10. Add the roasted nuts to the halwa and mix well.

11. Serve hot or cold, garnished with some more chopped nuts.
