How to Make a Mermaid Tail

by Seller Ben Buisness

Most kids who love swimming may have imagined themselves as little mermaids swimming across the ocean. With the summer coming after a long winter let your kids enjoy being in water by being innovative. Show them that you are a mom in many ways by making them a mermaid sleeping bag. You may be looking all over the online how-to tips and still come out empty handed.

Let us see what creativity and the little knowledge on sewing lessons can achieve.

Here is What You Will Need

·         1.5 meters of wool

·         Sewing machine

·         Paper to make the pattern

·         A matching thread

Here we go:

Step 1

Make your pattern, let the child sleep on a clean floor and trace her body by adding a few inches to the sides and length of her body. In an event when the child is not present use the length of your child’s armpit to the floor and add about two inches. For the tails, width, use the child’s hip-length or the chest and add one or two inches. We are adding extra measurements to make them more comfortable.

Step 2

Cut out two tails and two fins. Pin the straight edges of the tails together and sew them on each side

Step 3

Pins the right sides of the fins and sew along the edges of the fin but leave the top sides

Step 4

Fold the right side of the now developing mermaid tail sleeping bag outwards. Stich a borderline and decorative line for the fin. Remember to leave the top section.

Step 5

This step is the most delicate in the entire project. Insert the fin inside the tail and remember that the fin is right side out and the tail is inside out. Pin the two pieces and sew.

Step 6

Now that you are almost done bring out the tail right side out, fold it over the top of the tail, and put a finishing stitch.

Take Note

If possible, when buying wool buy a ball of anti-pill wool and keep an eye out on the latest bargains. The amount of fabric needed also depends on the width. You can use the extra piece of fabric and wool to make a mermaid sleeping bag with a pillow.

As usual, please follow the steps carefully and walk through it while practicing. We would also love to see your creations on our Facebook page or twitter.
