How to maintain oral hygiene when you are travelling?
by Vijay Ramasundaram Springvale Dental ClinicIf you are planning to travel, it can be
quite challenging to keep up with proper oral hygiene depending on your
schedule. However, having a busy schedule is no excuse for not taking proper
care of your oral hygiene. Whether you are travelling abroad or pulling an
all-nighter at your office, keeping your teeth clean and healthy must be a
priority. Do not use "I am not in a bathroom" as a mere excuse. Here are several ways that you can maintain
your oral hygiene while travelling.
-
Visit your dentist for a check-up
Before you
go, inform your dentist that you will be travelling.
In case you are due for your dental check-up, it is wise that you go earlier so
that if you have any dental issues, they
can be resolved before travelling. If you are travelling for a long period of time,
it is very important that you have a full oral check-up before you leave.
-
Stock up on your oral hygiene supplies
Stock up
all the dental care supplies that you may need while you are away. You will
possibly be able to find the basics such as toothpaste and toothbrush, but you may want to carry the items that you
regularly use at home. This isespecially if it took you long to find your favourite toothpaste flavour.
-
Keep the sugar on the down low
Going for
a vacation may be a good excuse for eating lots of sugar for a majority of
people. That said, sugary treats can do great harm to your teeth and gums. Try keeping the sugary treats and snacks to
a minimum. Always keep in mind that every other time you expose your teeth to sugar, you are inviting in tooth decay.
-
Consider brushing with bottled water
This depends on where you intend to travelto. Brushing your teeth with bottled
water will help you minimise the possibilities of getting sick while you
maintain your dental hygiene.
-
Ventilate your toothbrush
Having a
toothbrush holder that has no holes locks in moisture which leads to bacteria
growth. Always keep your toothbrush in a large container to keep it ventilated.
-
Always use approved dental tools
In case
you forgot your toothbrush back at homeyou
can rinse away the extensive number of bacteria with water and a washcloth.
However, it always advisable that you find the nearest drugstore and buy toothpaste and toothbrush to maintain proper
dental care.
-
Pack an Extra
There are
high chances of losing your toothbrush while travelling,
and in most cases, those stocked by the
hotel may be too firm for your gums. Ensure that you always pack an extra
toothbrush to keep you covered.
