How to install the Wi-Fi Netgear WN2000RPT repeater or any Netgear model using SMART WIZARD?

by Jason Miller Marketing Executive

Having an Internet connection is one of the first things we install in a home or office. Depending on this we will have more or less complications, either by distribution or by location. In many occasions our Internet connection does not arrive with all the efficiency that it should because the signal is lost in certain spaces. Walls for example or a double floor can be a brake for Wi-Fi signals.

So the question is how to extend Wi-Fi signal coverage?

If you want the signal of your Wi-Fi connection to be the best possible, here are the different ways to improve it. The best of these ways is using the Wi-Fi repeaters or the new extender setup. The extenders are the devices that allow us to expand Wi-Fi coverage and avoid connection failures. In general, they are usually compatible with any company router. What they do is receive a signal and send it more power to the other site.

Today we will talk about a company whose Wi-Fi extenders are quite widespread: Netgear. What we are going to do is replicate Wi-Fi so that it reaches further with good quality. There are two ways to configure it.

Configure Netgear extender Wi-Fi repeater with WPS button

If the router you want to connect to has a WPS button, you can connect fast.

We keep pressing the WPS button on the router and it will activate that within 1 minute the devices can connect without password.

You press the WPS button on the front of the Netgear. You will already have them connected. If we see that you do not have a WPS button or it does not work and you want to configure it in a different way, follow these steps.

Tip: We recommend that you visit the official support of mywifiext.net setup to consult your specific model if you want to solve a specific problem since the Netgear family has large enough products.

Configure Netgear to extend Wi-Fi repeater remotely

Let's see how to configure our repeater remotely:

  • We connect it with a network cable to the router that we want to configure. We turn on the repeater and now from a computer or a mobile we can configure the Wi-Fi extender. We can see that we can connect to the device (as if it were a Wi-Fi) will appear name: NETGEAR_EXT you connect and ready.

  • Now we open the browser and write the following: www.mywifiext.net

  • There on it will appear to be able to configure it.

  • It will start looking for Wi-Fi networks that you see in your reach and you must select in which you want it to be set as Wi-Fi Extender. Click on Continue

  • The gap will appear to fill in the Pass Phrase (Password) and put the Wi-Fi password of your Internet connection. Pulse in continue

  • Now it tells us to put the name SSID. This is if we want to change the name of Wi-Fi for those who connect with this extension, or without writing the name we mark: "Use the same security and passphrase as those for the existing network". This will mark this is to use the same name that we just connected (a Wi-Fi extender). The Extender will connect to the Wi-Fi router that we have indicated and in 1 minute it will be ready!

In this way we can have our Netgear repeater configured and thus expand the Wi-Fi coverage of our space.
