How to install audio system in your car?
As you may know most cars have stock audio systems that come by default fro the assembly line. These systems can be good but these systems will never be great. They will always lack in great sound quality. This is one of two reasons; either the current system does not have great hardware or the audio setup in your car is not complete. If it is the latter then it is much better because you can make additions to the current system which is much more economical.
Now you can have your work done by professionals but if you know what you are doing you can do the work yourself. This way you can save yourself some money. The trick is to remain careful and be aware of how the process is going so do not rush things and if possible keep note of every process.Just follow these steps and you should be able to install a car audio system properly.
- Disconnect the battery of your car: Do not in any case work when the electrical system of the car is live. All you need to do is find the negative terminal of the battery and detach the connection to it. Forget this step and you might have to call an ambulance.
- Remove the dashboard cover: Unscrew it with a screwdriver and expose the old stereo so that you can work on it freely.
- Disconnect old system: Disconnect the old stereo system from the frame and pull it forward gently. This step must be done carefully and you must note which wire goes where. Note all of this down with pen and paper if you find it necessary. Better yet you can take a picture of it or make a video with your cell phone camera.
- Disconnect the wires: Remove the wires connecting the old stereo system one after the other and remove the system from the car.
- Connecting the new system: Install the wiring harness of the new car audio system. This will help you connect the wires comfortably. In case the new system does not have a wiring harness the instruction manual we created in step 3 and you can connect the wires accordingly.
- Place the new system: Slide the new audio system into place but do not secure it just yet. Keep the system loose and check that everything is functioning properly. If all is well proceed to the next step.
- Reconnect the battery: Connect the detached terminal and check the audio system again and see whether everything is functioning as it should and that you are happy with the sound quality.
- Place the audio receiver: Screw into place the car audio receiver and reattach the dashboard of the car. You might have to resize the hole in the dashboard to accommodate the receiver. Measure the space you need accurately and cut precisely with a hacksaw or other cutting tools.
