How to Improve Your Memory for More Productive Study
Would you like to spend less time on studying and to be productive at the same time? Most of the people probably want. However, it is hard for many of us to focus on studying even if it’s important. Actually, it isn’t surprising at all: today we have all these social media, messengers and websites able to distract us from studying. Even if we shut down all messengers and avoid Facebook, this still doesn’t guarantee that we won’t stumble upon an interesting article while doing our research and won’t find ourselves reading it and wasting our precious study time.
There are some things that can improve our memory and concentration. For this only need to get enough sleep, to eat well and to lead an active lifestyle (or spend some time outdoors at least). However, if all these things are present in your life and you still find it hard to focus on something, here are some tips that can help you to become more productive.
Use timers
Timers are one of the simplest yet effective things that can help you focus on your study. They work well because you know that you need to concentrate on a certain amount of time only, be it 25 or 45 minutes. Scientists counted that these intervals are the best for focusing, so you can start with using 25-minute Pomodoro timer if 45 minutes seem unbearable to you and switch to 45 later if you want to.
Take good breaks
No one is able to be productive for a few hours in a row. Everyone needs to rest, and if you want this rest to be as effective as possible, make sure that you’re doing something completely different during your breaks. For example, if you were sitting in a library or doing your research on a PC, take a break and go outside, do some exercises and so on. Your rest needs to differ from your work; otherwise, you’ll still feel exhausted after a break.
Use mind maps and drawings
This doesn’t work for everyone, but many people do find it simpler to memorize a certain information if they use mind maps or drawings.
Drawing is an interesting way to remember something: you can write down something and then illustrate it. This helps develop abstract thinking too. However, if you think that drawing is not for you, you can try using mind maps instead. They are more useful for solving different complex tasks or splitting a certain big topic into a few smaller ones. Also, you can find your own way to use them.
Meditate
While it might seem a weird advice, meditation can help you develop better concentration. Basically, it’s all about focusing on your thoughts for a certain period of time, so after you master this skill, you’ll be able to focus on other different things too.
Even if you’ve never meditated before, it doesn’t matter. You’ll be able to learn meditation by using one of many mobile apps or tutorial videos that can be easily found online.
One of the best things to ensure that you’ve really mastered the subject is to explain this subject to someone else. Yes, some students try to answer the questions about this subject instead, but teaching is actually much better. When you teach, you not only repeat the information but also explain it in a simple way, mentioning all the basic principles. This way you’ll ensure not only that you know the subject well, but also that you’ll be able to explain it well to a professor.
There are many other tips that can help you become more productive, but it’s better to start with one of these. I hope that my tips will help you!
