Whenever I get talking to students, I find
that most students are terrified with the prospect of studying Maths. Even
students who have had a fondness for maths till their secondary classes, start
avoiding it in higher secondary level.. Some students adopt their stream taking
care to sidestep Maths. But it goes without saying that Maths possibly is the
only subject where they can get 100% marks undoubtedly, if they have answered
accurately. So when you’re appearing for your class 12 boards where every mark
counts in this fiercely competitive world, Maths can actually help you enhance
your grades.
Class 12 students
should possess the following characteristics to excel in Maths.
1.
Tenacity: Firstly,
believe in yourself. It is the first secret of success. Don’t get bogged down
by your problems; be led by your dreams. Take a look at your past
performance in Maths. If you have been fairly good at it till secondary level,
then you can also do the same in higher levels, if you are willing to give it
all that it takes.
2.
Notes making: Effective
notes making enhances academic success, It is almost a necessity for
students and educators alike. While listening to their teachers’ lectures in
the class, students should jot down the important points what they think would
be necessary from a point of understanding the basic concepts of chapters.
3.
Attention: This
is the basic and the most important part for understanding any subject. Students
should take care of this especially while dealing with Maths. As compared to
other subjects, Maths requires more concentration. Don’t get distracted in any
manner and don’t let your mind wander in the class.
4.
Doubt Clearing: Harboring
inhibitions, many students desist from clarifying doubts in the class
and as a result suffer later. Doubts need to be clarified as they come. If at
all someone feels shy asking questions in front of the class, they could
consider asking them outside the class or try and sit in the front so that one
doesn’t get to see other people sitting in the class.
5.
Group study: Studying
in groups is an effective method to liven up your study sessions. Discussing
the topics with others, asking different questions on the same topic have been
known to make the students learn topics even more effectively. If for any
reason a student is unable to attend classes, s/he can get notes from members
of the same group. Group study makes learning fulfilling and enjoyable. If
group study is not possible due to geographic or logistic limitation, try to
have a study partner with whom you are comfortable. When you and your partner
get together and solve Maths problems together, it can be a kind of a game.
6.
Time Management: Time
management is basically spend time judiciously. It benefits an individual
in all aspects of life. Make a routine of studying Maths at a certain time.
Having a designated time for any subject will instill self-discipline and take
you ahead. It is better to study a little bit daily rather than to study one
particular subject for a whole day. Homework should always be done on time.
7.
Focus on Formulae: Formulae
in Maths are important and learning them sometimes can be quite
challenging. This is where practice makes you perfect at remembering formulae.
8.
Clear handwriting and Calculations: When
you’re doing mathematical calculations, and as you go from one step to
another, it helps if you write clearly and distinctly. Many a times
