How to Get a Google Play Refund

by Karen Jodes technology world

With Google Play, it is very easy to get a refund in case you buy an app or game that doesn’t fulfill your expectations, or if you buy it accidentally, or if you change your mind after making the purchase. All you need to do is just initiate a refund within two hours of your purchase but if you wait longer, the process can be a bit difficult. Here is a detailed guide for refund in any scenario:

Google Play’s Refund Policy

Google Play has a complicated refund policy as each category of purchases in the Google Play store has its respective refund policy and understandable reasons for a refund. For example, if you want a refund on an app, you can initiate an automatic refund within two hours of the purchase. If it has been more than two hours, you can request a manual refund within two days, although, the latter isn’t a guaranteed case. There are other categories, like books, music, etc which have different refund policies.

How to Get a Google Play Refund Within Two Hours of Purchase

If it has not been two hours to your purchase yet, you can request a refund within Google Play on your phone directly, and it will process automatically. This is the quickest and most effortless way to get a Google Play refund, but it is available only for the first two hours after the purchase.

1. Launch the Google Play app on your phone, and go to the hamburger menu in the upper left corner of the screen.

2. Select ‘Account’.

3. Tap on ‘Purchase History’.

4. Click on the order for which you want to refund.

5. Scroll to the end and tap ‘REFUND’.

6. In the confirmation box, click ‘Yes’.

7. If your refund initiation is successful, you will see a ‘Your purchase has been refunded’ notification at the bottom of your screen and the purchase will be marked as canceled.

How to Get a Google Play Refund After the Two Hour Limit

In case it has been more than two hours but less than two days of your purchase, you can request a refund for your purchase through the Google Play website.

This process is a bit different than the previous method as one has to choose a reason for the refund. You also have to provide a genuine explanation as to why you want a refund for your purchase. As this process is not automated, the refund cannot be guaranteed. However, you can expect a reply from Google Play within 15 minutes.

Here are some of the reasons for which you can demand a refund within 48 hours of purchase:

• In case the purchase was accidental.

• In case the app isn’t what you expected it to be.

• In case the app doesn’t work as advertised.

• Someone purchased the app without your permission.

If you have not made the purchase and anyone you know did not use your phone to make the purchase, then, Google will ask you to follow a specific set of instructions. Alongside this, you can report unauthorized purchases within 120 days of the original purchase.

Here are the steps you can use to request a refund within 48 hours of your purchase.

1. Type “play.google.com/store/account” in the URL bar to open your Google Play account and then select ‘Order History’.

2. Click on the purchase you want your refund for, and then select ‘Report a problem’.

3. Tap on ‘Select an option’.

4. Choose the reason for which you want to request a refund. If there is no option with which you can relate to, choose the closest one.

5. Define your problem, or elucidate your reason for a refund, in the provided field, then select ‘Submit’.

6. You will soon receive a response for your refund within 15 minutes. Remember that this is a manual process and that the response from Google Play can be delayed.
