How to fix the Outlook error 0x80004005?

The outlook is very helpful to share the data information between two clients or person. As well, it helps you to store the data within the Outlook. While running an Outlook, occurrence of an error is common and these errors occur due to software or hardware failure. Error 0x80004005 is an error code generally occurs either when sending emails or receiving emails. The main causes of this error are

· Damaged registry keys

· Viruses

· Malware

· Outdated drivers


The basic formats of error are:

  • “Sending and receiving reported error “0x80004005”: The operation failed.”
  • “An unknown error has occurred. Account: account name, Server: server name, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure (SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80004005”
  • “This message could not be sent. Try sending the message again or contact your network administrator. The client operation failed. Error is [OX80004005- 0X0004B9-OXOO501].”


Method 1: Clean the Registry

Clean the registry to remove the bad and invalid registry keys from the outlook. Follow the manual steps to clean the registry:

   • Open search box. Type regedit and click “OK”.

   • Then, open “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” -> “Microsoft folder” -> “Current version folder”.

   • Now, open “Run” folder and click on “Outlook 2013 error 0x80004005 file”.

   • Delete this folder and then, “Restart” the computer.


Method 2: Switch Off the New-Mail Notification Feature 

You have another solution for that is to disable the new mail notification feature in the MS outlook. Follow the manual steps:

Open the Outlook account and go to the “Tools” menu.

Now, go to “Options” and then select “Preferences” tab.

Click “Emails Options” and there uncheck the check-box “Display a notification message when new mail arrives”.

At last press “Ok” for confirmation.


Method 3: Disable Script Blocking Feature in Norton Antivirus

If the error 0x80004005 occurs after installing the antivirus on your system in such case disable the script blocking feature.

Note:-The above procedures increase the risk of virus attack to PST file hence you can use the following methods as well.


Method 4: Scan for Viruses

Such kind of virus can be occurring due to virus or spyware and these viruses enter into the system while downloading the attachment files. Hence, use any powerful antivirus to scan such viruses.


Method 5: Use Outlook Recovery Software


If you have tried all the above solution to fix the 0x80004005 error, then you have left an option to use the third party Outlook Recovery Software. This tool helps you to fix the all types of error within a PST file such as POP, SMTP, and IMAP.
