How to Edge Your Lawn

by jyoti singh digital marketer

When you edge your lawn, you’re removing the grass that grows next to your driveway or sidewalk. This will make for a more attractive landscape and also help keep unwanted weeds from growing in those areas. The edges of your lawn are also vulnerable to being trampled down by children playing in the yard or by pets. That can lead to a lot of extra work when it comes time to mow those areas again.

Set your lawnmower in the highest setting.

To edge your lawn, set your lawnmower at its highest setting. You want to make sure the blade is sharp and clean.

To edge at a 45-degree angle, start from one end of the lawn and cut outward by about six inches. Make sure to not cut too close, or you’ll tear up the grass rather than simply trim it with a sharp blade. After this first pass, go back over that area again but rotate away from where you started so that you don’t overlap your previous cuts; if done correctly, this should produce an even “V” shape across each side of your yard!

Mow next to a driveway or sidewalk.

To do this, you’ll need a mower with a high setting and a string trimmer. The string trimmer will act as your edger. Mow the lawn in stages to ensure that you don’t cut more than necessary.

For example, if your lawn is rectangular and has dimensions of 100 feet long by 40 feet wide, divide it into four quadrants: 1) from the northwest corner to the northeast corner, 2) from the southwest corner to the southeast corner, 3) from the northwest corner straight down one side of your yard (from point A to point B), 4) from point C straight down another side (from point D). Then mow each quadrant separately before moving on to another one.

Trim with a string trimmer.

This is the easiest way to trim your lawn. Use a string trimmer to trim along the edge of the yard, keeping it neat. String trimmers are easy to use, although they can be dangerous if you’re not careful with them. The height of your grass will determine how low or high you can set your string trimmer’s height; adjust accordingly as needed by using a straight edge guide.

Add a strip of landscape fabric and mulch.

Now that you’ve planted the grass, it’s time to make sure it stays healthy. If you want the best lawn possible, then you need to make sure weeds don’t grow in your yard.

To prevent weeds from growing in your newly seeded area, cover it with landscape fabric. This material prevents weeds from sprouting up by blocking sunlight and airflow.

Once covered with landscape fabric and mulch, your new lawn will be safe from all kinds of invaders for up to two years!

It’s easy to keep lawn edges looking crisp.

To remove any grass that’s growing outside of your desired edge, use a string trimmer to trim it down.

  • Use a String Trimmer to Trim Edges

If you have an edger attachment on your mower or trimmer, make sure the machine is in straight line mode and begin at the farthest corner from you with the tip of your machine facing away from where you are standing. This will ensure that you do not accidentally cut into existing grasses when edging. While keeping this tip down, slowly move forward along one side of your intended border until you reach its endpoint (or another obstacle). Now slowly lift on your tip so that it follows above where it was previously cutting as opposed to continuing across another section’s edge without lifting first – this will help prevent overgrowth in between sections if done correctly! Repeat the same process for the other three sides using the same technique above described; then finish up by coming back around inside corners near house/driveway towards starting point with new lawn line visible again old one now gone due  to trimming process just completed earlier.”

Conclusion

Lawn edging is an important part of lawn care. It will give your lawn a professional look and keep your property looking neat and tidy. Lawn edges can be easily maintained with a string trimmer, a lawnmower, or even by hand.
