How to Easily Make Good Cat6 Cable All The Time

by Joe Roberts Consultant

Without a doubt, purchasing Ethernet patch cables from a store is the most convenient and straightforward method of resolving networking problems. However, where is the amusement in that? If you're using Cat6 cables, why not create your Cat6 Patch Cable?

The procedure is straightforward. All you have to do is read this article and follow the instructions.

Step 1: Collect All Required Equipment

To make Cat6 cable, you'll need the following items: RJ45 connectors, cat6 ethernet cables, cable boots, cable cutters, crimp tool, cable strippers, measuring tape, and a strong cup of coffee.

Step 2: Measurements of Length

To minimize cable waste, you must pay close attention to length considerations. When measuring lengths, remember to add approximately 4 inches on each end for plugs. For longer distances, the measurement factor becomes critical because it directly affects data transfer rates. Cat6 cables support data transfer rates of up to 10Gbps over a distance of 50 meters but drop to 1Gbps over a distance of 100 meters. As a result, you must ensure that your cable does not exceed the 100-meter limit.

Step 3: Disconnect the Cable

Two inches from the wire's end Then, using the cable strippers, insert your Cat6 ethernet cable. Snug up the cable but not too much. Ascertain that the wire stripper's blade is perpendicular to the wire. To score the cable's sheathing, wrap the stripper once around the wire. Now that the stripper has been removed, bend the ethernet cable along the scoreline. Sheathing can be damaged as a result of this action. Discard the broken sheathing from the Cat6 cable.

Step 4 : Inner Cable Preparation

Once the sheathing is removed, the copper conductors are no longer twisted in four pairs. The next step is to organize the data plug's conductors. T-568B and T-568A are the two most commonly used configurations these days. We recommend the following configuration in reverse order:

  • Orange White Orange

  • Blue White Green

  • White Blue Green

After configuring cables, you'll straighten them; as neatly as possible. At this point, you are not concerned with exact lengths; instead, focus entirely on untangling the cables. However, when trimming wires caused by cable clutter, it is necessary to ensure that all cables are even.

Step 5: Connectors Should Be Crimped to The Cable

Insert your Cat6 cable into the RJ45 connector at this point. Once the wires are inserted into the connector, ensure that the sheathing is inside the data plug's end; this will increase signal strength and protect them from interference. Pinch the cable higher and closer to the connector as this advances the sheathing into the RJ45 connector. Now, place the plugin on the crimping tool and squeeze the handle—rep on the opposite end.

Step 6: Phase of Testing

Now, using testers, check your patch cable. If the results are flawless, you are ready to proceed.
