The humming sounds made by the little one or there need for hunger at unexpected hours make it impossible to sleep with them. But a majority of people are unaware of the fact that 78% of pregnant women experience difficulty in sleeping during the early trimesters of pregnancy. Whether you are in the initial trimester of pregnancy or have entered the final trimester, sleeping problems can erupt anytime and can be due to various reasons. Problems in sleeping during pregnancy is not a matter to worry about. Considering a few tips while sleeping helps in curing early pregnancy sleep problems.

1. Pee frequently at night


During pregnancy, the need to pee frequently at night during the first and third trimester disturbs the sleep which is caused due to various reasons.  It is essential to stay hydrated during pregnancy and eat healthy foods but avoiding liquids at night helps in controlling the need to pee frequently thereby curing one of the pregnancy sleep problems.


2. Discomfort in body


As the pregnancy progresses the womb tends to increase by each trimester. Due to the expansion of the womb, a pregnant woman faces certain body discomforts that disturb sleep at night. To cure the pregnancy sleep problem caused due to expansion in the womb, sleep on your side especially on the left side as it is the safest way to sleep for both you and your baby in the womb. If you are experiencing any other bodily discomfort like swelling in legs and hand, this sleeping position will help in reducing it by maintaining your blood circulation.


3. Heartburn and Acidity


Heartburn and acidity are some of the common problems that disturb sleep during pregnancy. It is advised to avoid spicy foods during pregnancy to cure pregnancy sleep problems caused due to heartburn and acidity. Make it a habit of having dinner two hours before going to sleep.


4. Nose Blockage And Congestion


It becomes impossible to have proper sleep during pregnancy if you are experiencing nose block and congestion. It can be cured by using nasal sprays and nose strips as it allows you to have open airways during bedtime. If the case is severe, you can seek medical help to get steroid-based nasal sprays and decongestant medicines.




5. Sleep Apnea And Snoring


Sleep apnea & snoring are some of the common pregnancy sleep problems that can occur in any trimester. But nothing to worry about, treating such a condition is possible. Sleep with multiple pillows to lift your head a bit higher while sleeping and using a nasal strip is advised to prevent snoring. 


6. Cramping Legs


Cramping legs is one of the most common pregnancy sleep problems. To cure such a condition it is advised to eat a healthy diet. Include a diet that is rich in calcium and magnesium to ease cramps. Leg stretching and light exercises can even come to aid.
