How to Correct Posture Without Pain

by Ben Goodman ***

During these modern times, when we spend most of our time facing the computer or using a smartphone, we tend to lose, ironically, our posture. Maintaining proper posture is a tasking body chore, unless you’re enjoying the luxury of a comfortable office chair.

Have you ever tried sitting for 8 hours and practice a good posture?  If yes, then you know it hurts! Sitting up straight will help, but instead of relaxing your body, you tend to use more muscles to keep the proper alignment of your spine. Inasmuch as this is beneficial to the general health of your back, your body will feel so stressed out brought about by the over usage of muscles. At the end of the day, you’ll wish to have a back and shoulder massage.

Here are tips on how to maintain proper sitting position without the usual discomfort.

Choosing the Right Chair

Considering you spend most of your day working in front of an office desk, your office chair will most likely become a part of you. So, having the perfect posture support chair for back pain is exactly what you need to counter the discomfort of prolonged sitting.

For a start, you need to buy an office chair with the right features to address your posture needs. The first thing that you need to look into is that there should be a well-fitted sitting space for your bottom, and sturdy support for your back. Consider also the chair’s height.  Your feet should rest flatly and comfortably on the floor.

Right Posture Without Back Pain

If your body is used to slouching, this can be a tough job. Here are easy ways to maintain the natural curve of your back without the usual muscle stress.

First, pull your feet back into the chair, relax your belly, and bend forward. Then aim your pelvis towards the chair. Through this, you’re not putting too much pressure on your muscles.

Do not cross your legs as this position shifts your weight to one side of your leg. And if you’re sitting for longer hours, you will experience leg cramps – an additional discomfort brought about by poor posture.

Lean your back comfortably to the functional curves of that chair for back pain. If you assume this healthy position on a daily basis, your body will get accustomed to this and you will be bringing back the glory days of your spine in no time.

Exercise While You’re Sitting

Our body is designed for moving. Even if most of your job involves too much sitting, there are many sitting exercises that you can do within your office cubicle. Observe healthy breaks in between your tasks. Or you can walk around while catching up with your colleagues. Moving your body increases blood circulation, and it releases the tension in some muscles.

Use Other Posture Support Gears

Aside from these comfortable office chairs, there are many products that help you achieve proper posture without experiencing back pain. One of these is a back or neck support pillow. The cushion and perfect contour of these accessories do not only facilitate comfort while sitting and working, it also serves as a support, especially for your posture muscles like your middle back and pelvis.

Motivation and Discipline

To have a proper posture generally needs your commitment in maintaining it. You can’t correct poor posture overnight, you need to discipline yourself. You can purchase all the assistive devices to keep your back straight, but if you do not have the motivation to observe it on your own – then it would just be costly and futile on your end to achieve that ideal body or posture.

So, have the will to carry on, even if your body’s protesting. Remember, no pain- no gain.
