by monika r. Consultant

Yoga became a very popular trend. Every day people want to start their yoga classes to be healthier and feel more energetic. But what if you know yoga good enough and your dream is to teach other people? Choosing your first yoga teacher training is a very important step toward following your passion. So, we will describe the most important steps you should follow to become a yoga teacher.

Get clear about your objectives

Your objectives will determine the best yoga training for you. Are you looking for a transformational life experience? Travel in Bali, Thailand, India or any place you've ever planned to visit! Spend a couple weeks for travelling and have yourself a total adventure! And if you've found a particular teacher that attracts your soul, don't lose your chance!

Do you want to teach professionally? Large yoga retreats usually require teachers to take their own teacher trainings before. Of course, the best way to get a job at a yoga studio is to become a dedicated member of that particular community! If you plan to deepen your connection to your local community, that's awesome! You will find new friends for you and will build relationships with your local yoga teachers. Do some research. Each yoga teacher training program will have a different approach. So, you will definitely find your personal best match!

Ask yourself: What kind of teacher you are going to be?

The trainers should have a mission statement for their school.  They know what kind of skills they want to develop. Some schools focus on a breath-centered, meditative, and calming practice. Other trainings try to deliver a powerful and transformational asana practice. Choose a right direction for you. It's important because there are lots types of yoga and you better concentrate on one of them for the first time. Here are some other good questions for any yoga teacher training:

1. What pranayama practices are taught?

2. What kind of philosophical do they use?

3. How many hours of practice are there each day?

4. Who are the trainers and what is their experience?

Which course structure is better for you

There are some programs are “intensives” that last only a month. Others take place over six months but only on the weekends. Which one is better? Well, it depends only on you. If you’ve got a five-days-a-week job, then a weekend course is probably the only option you can afford yourself. If it's summer, then taking an intensive yoga training can be a very good idea! It’s only a question of personal choice.

Bottom line

Get in, enjoy and always remember that it's only the beginning of your journey! There are a lot of adventures and experiences in the future! Happy learning!
