How to choose the best private high school

by Ella Wilson Love to write
We all want the best for our children.  This translates to the protection, guidance, and care we offer to them unconditionally.  Besides, it's our innermost desire that they get a future as bright as they would have wanted it to be.  And this is probably why most parents take their children to some of the best private schools.  Both locally, and internationally.

Now, private schools offer more personalized services which you will rarely find in a public school.  The big question is, how do you know a school is the best?  If we were to go by the occasional adverts on the best private schools in New York, we would be brainwashed.  The result? You get your child admitted to a school with the most mediocre administration, poor academic performance, and what have you.

There's, however, a strategy to help you discern the best private schools from ordinary private schools. Our carefully selected factors here will help you pick a school of your dreams.  Stay tuned.

The School's Mission

The mission of any school is determined by the way the administration carries out their daily services.  Are they committed to improving anything?  Feel free to interrogate the administration on factors like:
  • The prevailing academic conditions, and students' welfare.
  • How they would like to better the current conditions.
  • Their efforts to achieve the set goals.
  • The average class population, and student-faculty ratios

Which Universities Are Their Students Given The Nod To Apply For?

You don't want you, child, to complete his high school education, and sit back home.  Do you?  Ok now, check the average number of the school's top performing students who get admissions to top universities.  Compare the statistical data of high achievers of the school over the past years.  If your child also fancies a specific college, ensure you do some research on the college's track record.

What Are The Teacher-Student Engagement Levels?

Take note of the frequently advertised 'best' private schools which mention 'engagement' in their newsletters.  How close are the teachers to their students?  The teachers should be friendly, and collaborative with the students.  Psychologically, this will make it easier for students to open up, and discuss with their teachers some of the most challenging problems they face.

To determine this, feel free to ask fellow parents whose children are already in the school.

How Authoritative Is The School's Leadership?

Remember robust leadership approach is vital to any organization's success.  Make it upon yourself to determine the priorities the school has set up for the success of the students.  Meet the head of departments, and be sure to ask them the plans they've laid down to achieve their goals.

Again on the question of leadership, you can gauge their commitments by asking other parents questions like;
  • Do they have trust in the current hierarchy?
  • Does the leadership embrace healthy-parent to teacher engagement?
  • How frequently do they discuss significant issues about the academic prowess of their students?
  • Finally, after having weighed all these factors, be sure to check the school fees. Does it match your budget?  If so, go ahead, and let your child learn.
