Tractor tyres are costly to buy, but still, it is a necessary item for your agricultural fields. Just like any other tyre, these also require proper care and attention to perform well. But it would be wrong to think of this as the only benefit of tyre maintenance as it also reaps other benefits like durability, rise in fuel efficiency, and is of course an economical solution. So it is proved that you need to maintain your tractor tyres along with the vehicle for your good.

Let us see how to do it.

  • Make Sure Your Tyres Are Of The Correct Size: like it or not you have to know the truth about the original equipment tyres of the new tractors. The tyres that are fitted in any new vehicle are not always the best choice for them. Moreover, these are economical for the manufacturer only. So, the first work of yours would be to get the right tyre size for your vehicle. Usually, it is suggested to go for the larger sizes as it shall work better. If you purchase large tyres right after getting your new tractorm, you can find the best price for the old tyres or exchange them for new ones; otherwise, you might wait for the initially fitted tyres to wear out.

  • Drive Slow and Steady: it is better to reduce your tractor speed to a level of 10 kms per hour in case it carries heavy loads in the fields. Also, by avoiding sudden jolts while driving can reduce the intensity of tyre damage. By following these two golden rules, anybody can gain longer tyre life for their vehicle’s tyres.

  • Tyre Pressure Adjustment According to Use: as you know, tyre pressure plays a vital role in the performance of it, so it is necessary to check tyre pressure regularly. Professionals suggest tyre pressure adjustments according to the type of work they will be used for. Suppose your Tractor Tyres are used more on the fields then it is better to keep the pressure at the lowest level as it will help in avoiding soil compaction and also tractive force transmission is more with more tyre surface in contact with the loose soil. On the other hand, if your tractor will be on-road, its tyre pressure needs to be adjusted again to the recommended level of its manufacturer or else tyres will wear out faster.

  • Overloading Should Be Avoided: loading your vehcile with more weight than what your tyres are capable of handling can be damaging for your tyres. Overweight is not suitable for anyone, be it a person or a vehicle. So it is always better to check the maximum weight of your tools which needs to be carried and then purchase a tyre that can carry it easily. In this way, you can avoid heat buildup in your tyres which is often the case for overloaded vehicles that leads to comfortable and faster tyre wear.

  • Proper Storage in Winter Is Essential for Tyres for Lasting Longer: since winter is the time when rubber is prone to shrinking, so storing them properly is the only way to retain their quality and help it last longer. If it is possible to take tyres off the machine and store, then it can be kept on a shelf, in a dry place, standing up on their sidewalls. The inflation should be at its average level. But if they remain attached to the tractor, it becomes imperative to take down all extra loads of the tractor before leaving it standing for the winter season. It will be much better to inflate the tyres a little more than the normal, say about 0.5 bars more, to fight off the weight of the vehicle.
