One of the most common skincare concerns is acne-prone skin and how to deal with the same. From constantly researching the best acne treatments to looking for DIY remedies to treat that awful pimple, every person has dabbled in different things to treat and cure their zits for good.

Almost all skincare enthusiasts are constantly looking for that one miracle product that controls the oil production in their skin, prevents breakouts and clarifies their complexion. However, with acne, it is important to understand that there is not one common solution that fits all, as every skin type is unique, has different characteristics and therefore needs to be treated accordingly.

Read through to understand what causes acne-prone skin and how you can treat this type of skincare concern. We also recommend the different treatments you can incorporate for your various acne concerns and skincare routines you can follow if you are prone to acne.

Before suggesting suitable remedies and treatments for acne prone skin, it is important to understand what actually causes acne.

When a bump or a cyst is formed on the surface of your skin due to clogged pores, it is known as Acne. The imbalance in the sebum production in your skin eventually leads to having acne-prone skin. The excess sebum tends to mix with dead skin cells and dirt deposits, which together results in an inflamed lump or that gnarly pimple which we cannot wait to get rid of.

From imbalances in your diet to now having to wear facemasks all day
long, there are multitudes of reasons that cause acne prone skin. Read below to understand some of the causes that can lead to this skin type.

Hormonal Changes: There are specific hormones that tend to increase during puberty, often leading to an increase in the sebum production. Additionally, hormonal changes during your midlife, pregnancy and even during the menstrual cycles can cause acne and breakouts.

Medications: Certain medicinal drugs can potentially cause acne. This goes back to hormonal imbalances where certain drugs can have an altering impact on your natural hormonal levels, thereby resulting in acne.

Diet: Yes, something as basic as the food you consume on an everyday basis can either lead to breakouts or may actually be the best treatment for acne if you are used to eating right. For instance, processed foods, an increased intake of carbohydrates, certain meats, alcohol, spicy food and even coffee tend to cause acne and worsen the skin. However, eating right and incorporating the right ingredients will help to detoxify your skin and help prevent breakouts.

Stress: In today’s times, stress is the cause of almost everything in our lives. When you are used to stressing and panicking too much, your primary stress hormone goes into overdrive mode causing an increase in the sebum production leading to that dreadful zit. Stressful times in our lives also lead to us developing unhealthy habits such as disturbed or insufficient sleep, consuming unhealthy and oily foods or not eating at all, and having an excessive amount of caffeine. All these unhealthy patterns negatively affect our skin.

One of the most common searches on Google is “how to get rid of a pimple quickly?” These searches are almost never directed towards actually finding out what is causing the acne and what type of acne you have. The simple mantra is – if you eradicate the cause of the acne, you will eventually eradicate the acne itself. The ideal starting point for permanently getting rid of acne is to understand what’s causing it and slowly removing these factors from your life.

When suffering from acne-prone skin, it is paramount to avoid squeezing and picking at the zit or pimple that you have. While you may have the instant urge to do so, please avoid touching your pimple at all costs, as doing so will aggravate the redness and can potentially lead to scabs and permanent scarring.

Maintaining healthy and clean skin is the most fundamental step to prevent acne and breakouts as well as other skin related concerns. Additionally, natural ingredients and eating healthy with regards to your dietary habits can work wonders for your skin. Fresh fruits, green vegetables and nuts are some of the basic things you can incorporate every day and get that glowing skin that you want.

A suitable and everyday CTM routine is absolutely key for those prone to acne.
  • Cleansing: Cleanse your face twice a day using a purifying facial cleanser but remember to use it gently and not excessively rub your face using it, as that can potentially trigger the acne.

  • Toning: A clarifying facial toner is your next step in this routine. Preferably, choose a toner that has natural ingredients and optimally rehydrates and tones the skin post cleansing.

  • Moisturising: A gentle and suitable moisturizer can prove to be extremely advantageous in alleviating your acne. This step also adds radiance to your skin whilst allowing it to breathe.
