How to Bottle Feed your Newborn Baby?

Babies are tiny beings that need a ton load of care and love. It is essential to give them healthy and the right food to promote overall development. As a mother we never stop worrying about our children, we take measure to keep them safe. This is especially true when it comes to feeding a newborn.

Feeding a baby is a wonderful experience that most mothers look forward too. No matter how long you breastfeed your baby, one or the other day you need to give them a bottle. Hence, let’s see a few tips that help us in bottle feeding a newborn.

Choosing the right bottle

When you decide to give a bottle to a newborn, the first step is choosing a bottle. Do not get overwhelmed with the number of options available in the market. Every baby is unique and they have their own necessity. Explore your options and pick one that suits your baby needs.

Buy an age-appropriate bottle for your baby.  Pay attention to the material used in making the bottle and its parts. The flow of nipple is equally important while purchasing, newborn babies require low flow while older ones may be able to handle the faster flow.

How to make a bottle?

The next step in bottle feeding a baby is making the bottle. Before you start using a new bottle, boil it in water with all its parts for at least 5 minutes. This process helps in sterilizing the bottle and making it safe. Next, wash your hands thoroughly before starting your prep. 

In case you are using a formula to feed your baby, read the instruction and follow them.  Check for any leakages and temperature of the milk before feeding the baby. And also never use a microwave for warming a bottle or store half used bottles for later use.

How to bottle feed a baby?

The final step in bottle feeding a baby is the actual feeding. How you hold your baby while feeding is a vital part of bottle feeding. Sit in a comfortable place and hold your baby in cradle position, closer to you.  Holding the baby in a slightly inclined position makes it easier for them to take the bottle.  Keep the bottle at 45 degrees or higher angle for easy flow of milk.

A nursing pillow comes in handy; also switch the baby from one side to another to prevent your baby from developing a preferred side and also to give a break to your arms.

Further, there is not hard and fast rule in regard to feeding a baby. A babies appetite vary, a newborn may need to be fed little and often.
