How to Book IRCTC Tatkal Train Ticket?

We should thank Indian Railways for offering Tatkal ticket booking facility especially in case of last moment journey. It is a big boon to railway passengers to book tickets just a day before the journey with this facility. It has been used widely by those who need to travel on a very short note or in case of emergency due to which they couldn’t reserve their tickets before time.

 

However, Indian Railways charge premium amount for tatkal ticket booking on first-come-first-serve basis. E-tickets are allowed to be booked in this quota. In this facility, i-ticket booking is not allowed.

 

Every day, more than 1.3 Lakh passengers book Tatkal tickets through IRCTC and most of the tickets are sold within few minutes after the Tatkal window/quota opens.

 

Timings for Tatkal Ticket Booking

The e-ticketing subsidiary of Indian railways, the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has reduced the tatkal ticket’s Advance Reservation Period (ARP) from 2 days to 1 days excluding date of journey from the origin station. Keep in mind that tatkal ticket booking is available for all classes except for Executive Class 1^st AC. For example, if you are traveling on 3^rd November, you can book on 2^nd November at 10 am.

 

You can book Tatkal tickets from 10 am onwards if you are booking tickets on AC class (CC/3E/2A/3A) and at 11 am onwards if you are booking SL/2S/FC. According to the recent Tatkal rules, you can book tatkal ticket for only four passengers. You can book two tickets max in each user ID/IP address in a day in the given time.

 

Booking Tatkal Tickets on new IRCTC Website

·         Enter the date, source and destination status on new IRCTC website. Choose the desired class and click “Find Trains”. Once the list of trains appears, select train, choose Tatkal option and check availability under Quota section.  

·         Passenger has to enter user and password to book ticket.

·         Enter details of passengers like name, age, seat preference, gender, food choice, etc. you can add more passengers.

·         Accept the Terms and Conditions, enter the Captcha, and click on Continue Booking.

·         Review the details and click “Continue Booking”

·         Make payment with your preferred payment option

·         After booking ticket, print the ticket with “Print ERS” option.

 

Charges and Refund Policy

No refund shall be provided for duplicate Tatkal tickets and confirmed Tatkal tickets. In some cases, full refund of fare along with tatkal charges shall be provided. Here’s the list of tatkal charges –

·         For Second Sitting (2S), tatkal charges range from Rs. 10 to Rs. 15 will be charged

·         For AC Chair Car (CC), tatkal charges start from Rs. 125 to Rs. 225 will be charged

·         For Sleeper class, tatkal charges ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 200 will be charged

·         For AC 2 Tier, tatkal charges ranging from Rs. 400 to Rs. 500 will be charged

·         For AC 3 Tier, tatkal charges ranging from Rs. 300 to Rs. 400 will be charged
