How to Adjust Margins of your Google Docs Document

Google Docs page have a default page size, color, orientation, and margins. When you open it, you’ll see the same page format. You’ve seen while creating a document in Docs; some space remains blank on all the four sides of the page. This empty space will also come in the paper when you print the document. If you want to change the default page format, and minimize this black space, the process is quite easy. You can customize the page and set margins according to your need.

How to change the side margins of Google Docs

Changing left or right margins are the simplest task you can do in Google Docs, here is how.

1.    Open the ‘Google Docs’ in your PC.

2.    Create a new document or open a document to change its side margins.

3.    You’ll see a margin ruler at the top of the document with two pointers determining the side margins of the text.

4.    To adjust the left side margin, click and hold the triangle pointer near the starting of the ruler.

5.    Move the pointer along the ruler to adjust it according to your need.

6.    Release the click to set the margin.

7.    To change the right side margin, click and hold the triangle pointer near the end of the ruler.

8.    Move the pointer along the ruler to adjust it according to your need.

9.    Release the click to set the margin.

You may need to select the paragraph or line before adjusting the side margins.

To adjust the top or bottom margins of a document:

1.    Create a new document or open a document to change its top or bottom margins.

2.    Adjust the margins from left side ruler.

How to set the document margins in Google Docs

If you want to customize the page size, page orientation, page color or margins of all four sides of a document, use these steps.

1.    Open the ‘Google Docs’ in your PC.

2.    Create a new document or open a document to change its margins or page orientation.

3.    Click ‘File’ at the top-left corner of the Docs window.

4.    Click ‘Page Setup..’ in the options.

5.    Look for the ‘Margins’ section.

6.    Click the box next to ‘Top’ to set the top space.

7.    Enter the value.

8.    Click the box next to ‘Bottom’ to set the bottom space.

9.    Enter the value.

10.    Click the box next to ‘Left’ to set the left side space.

11.    And enter the value.

12.    Click the box next to ‘Right’ to set the right side space.

13.    And enter the value.

14.    Click the dropdown box below ‘Page color’ to choose a color for your document.

15.    There are two orientations in Google Docs, you can choose for your document, Portrait or Landscape. Click on one, which you want to use.

16.    Click the ‘OK’ button to save the page settings.

If you want Google Docs to always open with these page settings, then you can set it as default, to do so click ‘Set as default’ button.
