How Language May Affect The Pope’s Visit To Uganda
Pope Francis who is the head of the Catholic Church
in the whole world is set this November to visit Uganda, a country found in the
Eastern part of Africa and mainly known for her infamous president of the
1970’s Idi Amin Dada who ruthlessly massacred innocent civilian with the sole
purpose of staying in power. This will be in November 2015
Such instances are not meant for the hosting country
alone, but rather are of interest to the entire world regardless of whether
Catholic or not because they are broadcast almost everywhere especially because
the dignitary involved is of great importance.
Languages
Therefore when Pope Francis gets into Uganda, eyes from
around the world will be watching, at least the media will be awash with the
pope’s activities in Uganda.
However not all people understand English which I am
sure is the language that Pope Francis will use as it is Uganda’s national
language yet different languages are
spoken and understood around the world even among the Catholics as they speak
different languages as per their counties despite having Latin as a common
language.
Therefore, translations and interpretations will
have to be carried out all over the world as different broad casters will have
to change the Pope’s message from its original language to languages best
understood by their audiences, sign language interpretation inclusive for
effective communication and purposes of identifying with the pope for the
Catholics.
