How is life coaching like sports coachingby Achin Puri CEO, Catalyyze
Anything and everything we do in our lives, need coaching in one or the other way. Be it by taking coaching from an expert or by learning from your environment. It's the process of guiding, training and motivating an individual to achieve greater heights, in sports or life. The most important aspect of improving performance is to strive every day to be better, stronger and sharper. A coach is one who helps you, guide you, support you to achieve your desired heights. But why should coaching be only for athletes, artists or actors? Why not for life?
A lot of people think that a personal coach or a life coach is absurd. What is the need for it? Don't we already know what life is, or how to live? But people leading ordinary life doesn't really understand the need for it. It's not just about survival but it’s about thriving. It helps you to realize your ambitions, goals, and dreams. The first and foremost thing is to realize the purpose of life, improve yourself, set goals and work towards achieving it, gaining self-acceptance and confidence.
Life coaching is quite similar to sports coaching. When a sports person fails to deliver the best of his ability on the field, sports coach helps him to understand what are the challenges that he is facing and how to overcome them in order to deliver better. But life coaching concentrates on the “why” part of it. Why he is facing challenges? His mental status, his life experience, the factors influencing him, etc. This helps to explore himself and learn to get the best out of him.
In ancient times, there used to be Gurus who would preach motivational and inspiring life lessons, advise and mentor in order to build a healthy and challenging lifestyle. Our kings used to respect and take guidance from such Asthana Gurus in their endeavors.
As we progressed, such life lessons and preaching gurus diminished. People changed their lifestyle and approach to the way of their thinking, which led to disasters in many cases. Be it in the personal, professional or social environment.
Of Late, we are seeing new age Gurus taking us towards positivity in life, asking us life lessons, motivating us on self reflection and inspiring us to move towards practical knowledge. People have realized the importance of such Gurus / Life Coaches in their lives for the wellbeing of oneself and overall.
To have a great successful life, we need to work towards it and be great at what we do. It's not as simple as it is to just read. This is really hard and scares people to work for it but it excites those who are inspired, motivated and guided well by the coaches. Working really hard all by learning yourself never works the same way as compared to how the coaching works. Or in other words, what you learn from life coaching is the living itself!
