You must be wondering that how the size of image and image quality can affect SEO of your website, but yes, it’s true. People love great photos and they definitely serve as attention pullers, especially when it comes to sharing page content on other sites or on social media. But there are some important points which coders need to focus on when editing and formatting page content.  I’d like to enlist some of the most important points below.

Images and their use:

  • Don’t use images which are large: this is an interesting point because sometimes we cannot see how big an image really is when we get to see it. Large images can cause serious loading issues for a website and they can therefore seriously affect site traffic if the problem is simply left unattended. Image sizes are normally in KBs. The limit is around 10-15 KBs. This does not mean you cannot make the image look big on the page itself, though.
  • Use the ALT text: this is very important to use: this is an attribute you can find among the properties. The ALT is like a message to the crawlers that something is in fact there and they should take into consideration. Without ALT text, large regions of your pages will look unused from the point of view of crawlers. They may even index them as pages with not enough content (that’s why always making sure you have enough quantity of text on a website). You can include the page related keyword in the ALT description if it has to do with the content but it really should be only a very short summary of what’s in the photo.
  • Use captions: while they have less importance than ALT they still count plus they have information value.
  • When you are naming jpg or jpeg files: and that name can be seen by other users to always make sure they have keyword optimized name that both covers the image content too. If it’s a multiple word name then use hyphens or dashes to separate them. It’s important for each image to signify what’s on them,
  • Make a customized folder containing all the images used: this doesn’t have to be a segment that other users can see, but it’s useful for coders to have such a place, so if any image needs resizing or other corrections they can proceed with it in a much shorter time. There are plenty of free tools where image size can be reset and the quality will also remain intact.
