On September 26, Huawei Phone Mate 30 officially went on sale in China and within the first minute, the company sold over CNY 500 million ($70 million) in revenue from the new phone lineup, despite the global sale decline.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu announced a price cuts himself on a Chinese social media. With the launch, The Mate 30 base model was sold for CNY 3,999 (~$561), which is about 35% less than the €799 (~$874) retail price that was announced at the launch event in Munich. They debuted Mate 30 4G version smartphone now and also announced plans to later in November release the 5G variant of this phone.

According to the SMCP, the Mate 30 Pro sold out on the first day of release even though it is more expensive but the Mate 30 is still widely available in the market. If you want to buy Mate 30 Pro, you’ll need to pre-order it.

The company launch strategy shows stronger efforts to grow in its home market first to compensate for the decline in global market sales due to the US ban. It also hopes that it can sell more units to overtake Samsung’s top-position in smartphone market share.

Huawei is currently on 2nd number in the global smartphone market shares, just behind Samsung. The company hopes that Chinese sales will drive enough momentum before the lineup’s release in international markets and the upcoming release of the foldable Huawei Mate X.
